What does it take to be a downsizing expert? Experience both personally and professionally. Over the years I've learned that downsizing isn't necessarily a bad thing, and here are 5 tips I've learned along the way.
1) Timing is Everything
Create a timeline when possible. Start doing a little now..don't delay the process.
2) Choose Quality of Quantity
Enjoy the finer things in life! Example: instead of keeping 10 sets of sheets, keep one with the highest thread count.
3) Work in Stages
To avoid overwhelm, you can approach in different ways...room by room or in layers (remove broken, unused items first).
4) Live It Up
By removing excess possessions in your life, you create a calmness and have more time and energy for things you enjoy.
5) Consult a Move Expert
Just like you seek advice from a financial planner, etc. seek help from a move manager who can coordinate all the details on your behalf and greatly shorten the duration of the move.
