Summer is a great time to try something new!

Is your church looking for ideas to gather the flock and reach out to the community over the summer? Perhaps you'll be in between Sunday school, LOGOS, youth group, and other regular programming and you'd like to try something different. Maybe you need a new idea for Vacation Bible School.

We're partial to bringing the generations together for lots of very good reasons that you'll read in the articles on this page. Here are a bunch of ideas to try.

Play together
When we experience great fun at the expense of no one else, relationships grow.

Mini golf
Kite construction + flying
Bowling
Board games night
Wii games night
Knit/crochet
Card making by rubber stamping
Minute to Win It games
Pictionary/charades
Ropes course
Fleece blanket making
5K run
Scavenger hunt (in the church, in the community)

Share a meal together
When we experience being part of God's family over a shared meal, relationships grow.

Cook + eat breakfast/lunch/dinner together
Fondue meal
Progressive dinner
Add a meal to any other activity/event

Lead worship together
When we learn and practice ways to serve God through worship, relationships grow.

Freeze frame drama for scripture
Speakers' choir for scripture
Small choir for a benediction
Drumming circle for Call to Worship
Liturgical banner making
Prayer walk around the neighborhood
Form a recorder band and play during communion
Hand bells or tone chimes peal
Learn signing for a hymn
Bake bread for communion

Study the Bible together
When we study the Bible together as the model for Christ-centered living, relationships grow.

Read the creation story + create a group mural
Read about Moses and the burning bush + build a fire outside
Read about Jesus calming the wind and waves + take a boat ride on a pond
Read the Pentecost story + discuss using lots of "wondering" questions
Use Lectio Devina for any scripture

Serve together
When we teach people to care for others and provide opportunities to serve together, relationships grow.

Pack care packages for shut-ins
Send stamped thank you cards to police and fire fighters
Visit assisted living facility for games or singing
Bake bread or cookies for church visitors
Paint the walls of a home for a neighbor in need
Make care kits for the homeless
Assemble birthday bags for food shelter
Donate fleece blankets to Project Linus
Sew or decorate pillowcases for hospital patients
Clean up a stream
Food packaging event ( Stop Hunger Now and others)

You may recognize play/eat/worship/study as the 4 parts of a LOGOS weekly ministry! Service can be incorporated throughout all 4 parts. Check out "Getting LOGOS Started" for a step-by-step plan to implement this approach to growing Christian relationships among people of all ages.
