August 8th Luncheon with Scott Brown

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will host a Luncheon with Senator Scott Brown on Wednesday, August 8th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The Terrace Room at The Hyannis Golf Club. Travel to China in the fall
Are you interested in traveling to China? This 9-day trip, October 18-26, includes visits to Beijing, Shanghai and either Hangzhou or Xian. The cost of the entire trip is $2,199, including round trip international airfare out of JFK International Airport in New York, Chinese domestic airfare, 4-5 star hotels, deluxe tour bus, English-speaking tour guides, 3 full meals daily, admission to all attractions, and all taxes and fees. July 18th Travel Industry Meeting
The Cape Cod Chamber will host a Travel Industry Meeting for members in the conference room at the Mid-Cape Home Centers Design Showroom on Route 132 in Hyannis on Wednesday, July 18th. The meeting will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. We will preview our new travel websites, and provide tips and guidance for how to maximize your use of the new sites! Cape Cod welcomes NE Bus Convention We welcomed the New England Bus Convention to Hyannis last week - an event that will have a ripple effect for Massachusetts as well! Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism director Betsy Wall and Chamber VP of Sales Patti Lloyd welcomed the group Friday as they kicked off their meeting. Attendees raved about the convention, and will hopefully return in a couple of years! Many thanks to the following partners who made it possible: The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis (including Dina Magliano and all staff), Heritage Museums and Gardens, Cape Cod Central Railroad, Heritage Group Tour Planners, Hy-Line Cruises, Tour Trends, Northeast Unlimited Tours, Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen. Thanks also to the many members who participated in the Friday evening reception, for helping to demonstrate the importance of the group tour industry to Cape Cod.

Cape Cod represented at M&I Show
Cape Cod was recently showcased at the Americas Meetings & Events Exhibition in Baltimore, Maryland! The Cape Cod Chamber, along with partners including Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, Chatham Bars Inn, Sea Crest Beach Hotel and the Resort and Conference Center, had 40 set appointments and networked with planners from MaxVantage, Conference Direct, Helms Briscoe, ADP, Lowes ,Sunny Delight and many more companies. All of the planners were impressed by the Cape Cod team and their destination presentation and sell! Many thanks to the Kandy Korner, which provided the delicious chocolate covered cranberries for the planners.

OpenCape Broadband installed over Canal
CapeNet LLC (CapeNet) announced that construction crews have pulled OpenCape Network fiber optic broadband cable over the vertical lift Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge in Bourne this week. The United States Army Corps of Engineers operates the bridge and canal. CapeNet manages construction of the OpenCape network and will provide high-speed, business broadband services over the completed network.

Prestigious skating championship coming to Cape Cod
The Yarmouth Ice Club will be hosting the 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Collegiate Championships at Tony Kent Arena in Dennis on August 16-18! This skating competition attracts collegiate skaters from all over the country. The Collegiate Championships are being held in conjunction with the 32nd annual Cranberry Open Figure Skating Competition. The Cranberry Open is being held over a one-week period (August 11-12 at the Tony Kent Arena and August 15-18 at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center).

The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod and Cape Cod Young Professionals (CCYP) are teaming up to support the growth of emerging businesses on Cape Cod, launching this week "The Positively Different Emerging Business Partnership," which will provide business resources and exposure to three newly formed small businesses annually on the peninsula. A special summer exhibit - "Jackie Kennedy: Life on Cape Cod" - opens at the JFK Museum in Hyannis this week and will run through September 30th. The exhibit includes rare photographs, handwritten letters and other artifacts from Jacqueline Kennedy's time spent in Hyannis Port. This summer, the Dan'l Webster Inn & Spa in Sandwich is once again inviting Cape Cod artists to submit digital images of their paintings and drawings for possible inclusion in their Menu Gallery! There is no fee to enter. Based on participation, 40 to 75 pieces will be chosen and each will be displayed on a Dan'l Webster dinner menu cover for a minimum of one year. The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that Guy L. Morse, III of Cape Cod (a Cape Cod Chamber member) will retire from the organization at the end of this year after 28 years of service. He has served as the B.A.A.'s Race Director for the Boston Marathon (1985-2000), Executive Director (2000 - 2010) and Senior Director of External Affairs (2010 - present).
The 32nd Annual July Sacrifice Art Sale at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, located at 154 Crowell Road, will be a buzz of activity on Friday, July 6th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, July 7th from 9 a.m. to noon. This is a great opportunity to purchase original paintings, watercolors, prints, photographs, pastels and pottery at bargain pricing! The Creative Arts Center's members have cleared out their studios and are offering their originals at Sacrifice prices.
