#GabeRepublic - Spot Gabe the Sasquatch on 626 Day!
Gabe the Sasquatch is the official spokesperson for #626GoldenStreets. A native of the San Gabriel Mountains, Gabe enjoys walking through the forest, eating locally-grown plants, and challenging persistent stereotypes like sasquatches-can't-ride-bikes.

After joining the 626 team in Spring 2016, Gabe has traveled across Los Angeles County by (big) foot, bike, Foothill Transit and Metro to spread the word that there are indeed cool things to see and do on the eastside of LA. Keep an eye out for him on Sunday March 5 for free selfies, Gabe Republic stickers, and hi5s!

details...

626 Golden Streets, the giant vehicle-free open streets event spanning the entire San Gabriel Valley, isn't just for road bikes and beach cruisers. In keeping with the spirit of open streets events where any human powered activities are encouraged-adventure riders can choose from several cyclocross/rough road adventure events. Or, you put them all together into a mini stage race (the 626CX City Cross Omnium"). Riders can first complete a cyclocross prologue TT (a timed lap on the City Cross Cycle-Fest course). Then, after a rest and refuel, you can set off on a 64 km/40-mile Golden Streets Gravel Ride. This adventure stage tackles dirt roads, single-track and rough pavement in and around the Santa Fe Dam, both sides of the San Gabriel River, a dirt path along Royal Oaks Drive, and more off-road stuff around Peck Park before finishing at the Irwindale hub/ Cyclo-fest. After another rest and refuel, riders can compete in the City Cross finals. All 3 events will be timed. If the Omnium is not your thing, you can tackle a longer 82 km/51-mile adventure ride that starts with warm-up east to South Hills Parks and a couple of miles of single-track and dirt rods there before continuing on the Golden Streets Gravel Ride!  Stay tuned to socalcross.org for further details, including GPS maps on STRAVA and Ride with GPS for each route.
