Sierra CAMP Presents UCLA Climate Talk

If you live or work in the Sierra Nevada, over the past few years you've seen first-hand the consequences of hotter-than-normal temperatures and a smaller-than-normal snowpack. You've probably wondered, "If things are like this now, what will they be like in the future, as the climate continues to change?"

Professor Alex Hall and his research team at the UCLA Center for Climate Science have set out to understand future impacts of climate change on the mountain landscapes we love and the snowpack upon which California depends for its water resources.

In this talk, Dr. Hall will present key findings from the study and discuss what they mean for Sierra residents, resource managers, and anyone who cares about the fate of California's iconic mountain range and its unique ecosystems.

Immediately proceeding the UCLA climate talk, Sierra CAMP will host its fall Member Meeting from 4-5pm. This will be an opportunity to reflect on Sierra CAMP's 2016 activities and success and discuss priorities for 2017. We highly encourage all Sierra CAMP members to attend along with those interested in learning more about Sierra CAMP.

When: November 9, 2016 5:30-7:30pm
Where: Truckee, CA (location TBD)
Free & open to the public though space is limited |  RSVP Here
(Sierra CAMP Member Meeting to take place at the same location from 4-5pm)

 Advocacy Success in AB2480

We are so proud of the work that Sierra CAMP and partners have done in elevating Sierra/rural issues with legislators and agencies this year, providing a strong voice for regional priorities and preparing us for even more proactive engagement in 2017.

One clear victory stands out: passage of AB2480, the source watershed financing bill that codifies the importance of Sierra-Cascade watersheds as the source of most of the state's water.  While the bill initially applied only to watersheds supplying the State Water Project, we worked to broaden its application to all source watersheds, including those that supply local and regional needs.  Having state law explicitly acknowledge the importance of source watersheds opens the door for much-needed investment in our water and energy future and the future of our rural communities.

Special thanks to bill author, Assembly member Richard Bloom, and bill sponsor, Pacific Forest Trust, for their hard work on this critical issue.
