Postscript
From the Office of Advancement:
Malcolm Wiley '87 recently retired from the US Secret Service after a long, distinguished career. He visited DeMatha in June and, afterwards, wrote back a long reflection on the school. Here is a small part of what he wrote:

"I took time to walk around the Convocation Center. I found my Hall of Fame 1986 football team plaque; I saw the plaques of Jon Jeffries '87; (Big) Andre Jones '87 - deceased; Phil Bryant '88 and others. I reminisced about my time walking the halls, going to class, competing
and forging life-long friendships. I marveled at how the campus had changed since I left. I took pride in my yearly donations to the school through the Combined Federal Campaign. I reminded myself that I needed to thank my mother, again, for sending me to DeMatha, which I did. I chatted with Dr. McMahon, who has not aged a bit. We talked about my time at DeMatha and he shared what he remembered about me. About ME?! How many students has he taught?  He remembered me? Wow.....

As large a presence as I am, I am also a sensitive, thankful, contemplative man. I am incredibly humbled by this most recent homecoming. My oldest son now fully understands the brotherhood that he's heard me talk about all these years."

E-mail we received last week from DM parent Patty Holt:

"My son Ryan had car trouble in the back parking lot after school today. I placed a call to the AAA 1-800 number requesting service. When the gentleman repeated my address as 'Silver Springs,' I could infer he was not local to this area. The conversation continued with me giving the address of where Ryan's car was located. He then asked me the name of the school.  When I responded, 'DeMatha Catholic,' he said, 'Oh yes, I see it here on the map.  Ma'm, I have a question for you that has nothing to do with the car.  Does DeMatha have a really good football team?'  When I enthusiastically replied that indeed it does, I added that their game had been televised on ESPN last Friday. He very excitedly told me that he had watched the game and that is why the name was familiar to him.  He stated that DeMatha played a very good game and that they really are a good team. After we confirmed that help was on the way, I closed the conversation by asking where he was located.  He stated that I had actually called New Jersey."

God Bless,
