90 CARS, GREAT FANS, EXCITING RACING PUT OPENING DAY IN THE BOOKS AT SPEEDROME
The Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome Powered by Lincoln Tech roared to life for 2018 with a busy Sunday afternoon. The Brown’s Oil Service Late Model oval feature was a thriller with fast qualifier Nick Moore edging reigning track champ Ben Tunny be mere feet in lapped traffic. Rookie Quentin White was third. The 50-lap Figure 8 saw Austin Tunny patiently pick his way past several strong runners to take victory. Rookie Matt Smith, who led the opening 24 circuits, was second followed to the line by Mike Riddle Jr. Riddle and Jordan Hahn split heat races.

A big field of Lawrence Towing Factory Front Wheel Drives brought a pair of features to settle scores. The “A” main had last year’s hottest late season racer Scott Stewart Jr grabbing the checkered flag over Joseph Liggett and Tylar Brown. The “B” feature saw veteran Jim Bullock pilot his familiar #32 to the victory over Lucas Liggett and Jeremy Tunny. Afternoon heat wins went to Jess Holliday, Roger Gwinn, Jordan Gonder, and Stewart.

The Superior Finish Lawn & Landscape INEX Legends launched their year with teams from 3 states on hand. Buckeye battlers Zach and Ryan Miller were best on this blustery day taking 1-2 in the 30-lap main event. Conner Popplewell rounded out the podium finishers. Zach Miller and Kenny Smith triumphed in the preliminary heat races.

The Shelbyville Auto Parts Thundercars had a very serious, very experienced roster ready for battle with a few newcomers in the mix too. The day started with 8-lap testers captured by Justin Dibbern and EJ Neat. EJ slipped around early event leader Dallas Green to win in the 25-lap main event. Dibbern came away second followed by Green at the checkered flag.

The young guns of the Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskarts got their campaign underway with 2017 title runner-up Stevie Frost and rookie Nathan Brown victorious in heat race action. Frost would show his experience in the feature powering to an impressive win. Rounding out the top five were Tyler Morefield, John Hargraves Jr, Brown, and Noah Perkinson.
