Half The Price Of Others That Got Same Score

Russian River Chardonnay Does Not Get Better

Kistler Quality At Half The Price

In yesterday's Wine Spectator Advance. Gary Farrel's Russian River Chardonnay got monster scores, 93 pts and is priced half the price of others with same scores. Hard core Russian River Chard at a great price. Sonoma's Russian River is home to California's greatest Chardonnay's: Dumol, Kistler; Martinelli come from this area. The wines are wonderfully rich and layered but they are also balanced, complex and long. They rival the finest Chardonnay's in the world and they are priced anywhere from $60 to $100 a bottle. The 2009 Gary Farrel Russian River Chardonnay, Russian River Selection is one of these wines but can be had for a half to third of the price. All other wines that received 93 pts by Wine Spectatorwere double the price. Gary Farrel is a pioneer of the Russian River. After working with regional winemaking stars such as Tom Dehlinger, Robert Stemmler, Davis Bynum and Joe Rochioli, Gary Farrell launched Gary Farrell Wines in 1982, producing 50 cases of Pinot Noir from the now famous Rochioli and Allen vineyards. This Chardonnay is a blend of some of the finest sites in the Russian River.2009 was a text book year in the Russian River Valley, long and cool, allowing grapes to develop full flavor maturity while retaining bright, natural acidity. This Chardonnay rivals the finest coming out of California. Gary Farrel has a great name for quality and has great label appeal. Perfect for the summer and a must for serious Chardonnay lovers.

Tasting Notes

The 2009 release of Russian River Chardonnay displays a lemon-gold hue with a lovely, bright clarity. The developing nose offers up aromas of ripe green apple, pear, candied lemon and lime, highlighted by rich tones of roasted grain and light vanilla and butterscotch. The palate offers beautifully balanced acidity, body, flavor and length. With a lively acidity and supple viscosity, this wine will pair exceptionally well with seafood and poultry dishes, as well as a fine aged Gouda. Winemakers Notes

Clean and refreshingly rich without being weighty, delivering a core of creamy pear and apple, with spice and floral touches, ending with a lively aftertaste of white peach. Drink now through 2020. 2,237 cases made.-J.L. Spectator
