MEMBER PROFILE - Meet Patricia

My name is
Patricia Asquini
and my path to wellness has been an evolution in time. In late January 2017 my dear mother died unexpectedly of heart failure and a week later on Groundhog’s Day my husband of 43 years passed away from cancer. Shortly after this I had a minor accident and broke three ribs. For years I had been going to the gym everyday but now my state of mind and physical problems prevented me from continuing on this path. My daughter Jenna found Beyond when they were offering the Summer Solstice special and I was delighted to find classes I could attend every day where both my mental and physical injuries could be addressed. Little by little, with guidance from the fabulous staff at Beyond, my physical injuries and mental state have progressed and I feel good again.
Beyond has become a place where I can go for classes to start my day and end my evening; where I can get advice, a kind word and learn new things; where I can meet new people and get together with old friends. And most of all Beyond is a place where I got healthy again and learn to stay happy and healthy.

Your Hips Don't Lie...
So, I had an aha moment while writing this blog. I have a love/hate relationship with pigeon pose, I see all the benefits, often crave it, but just as often kind of hate it.

|
|
*If you have practiced this pose, you probably know what I mean.

I always wondered why Eka Pada Rajakapotasana was called Pigeon; I have seen many pigeons in my life, I have never seen one tuck her foot under her hip and then lie face first on the ground. But then, while looking for a good pigeon picture (literally looking for a good pigeon picture, oh, life I saw a lot of messenger pigeons and after a few moments, it kind of blew my mind. Our hips are messengers, if you are not treating them (read yourself) right, emotionally or physically, they will let you know.

TEA TIDBITS with Tea by G

What is this LaPacho Tea I’ve been sipping?
You may have noticed a new tea on tap at Beyond and are wondering what it is. LaPacho tea, also known as The Divine Bark from the Pau d’Arco tree, originally native to rain forests in Central and South America. The Pau d’Arco tree has bright green oval shaped leaves with yellow/gold seams. The tree, when in bloom, produces clusters of dangling purple trumpet flowers.
LaPacho
, as the locals call it, is actually the inner bark of the tree, which is shaved off in long strips and boiled to make tea. Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and even the Bahamas consider the Pau d’Arco tree bark to be a cure-all and have been using it medicinally since early times.
