ON THE BOEDECKER HORIZON: A CHAT WITH CINEMA MANAGER GLENN WEBB
EBlast: Glenn, it’s the last week of school and there’s a lot of nervous parents out there wondering what to do with the kids when camp’s not in session.
Glenn Webb: So I’m always on the lookout for good, family-friendly nature programming, and I came across a couple of similar, yet different movies for Saturdays in June. WHALEDREAMERS is something that Julian Lennon got behind a few years back in Australia when there was a gathering of 85 tribal leaders from some of the world’s most threatened indigenous peoples. The Mirning people of Australia brought the gathering to the top of a sea cliff for a “whale dreaming” ceremony. Intertwined is some incredible underwater footage of the whales which also come to this sacred place.
Later in June we’ll screen OTTER 501, a new movie about a sea otter pup and the young woman, Katie Pofahl, who rescues it. We’re working on a live internet link Q&A with Katie after the first screening on June 23. It’s all very exciting.
EB: That sounds terrific! Do you have anything planned for people missing Bike Art! or getting excited for USA Pro Cycling Challenge this summer?
GW: We’re also going to get to run the new bicycling/travel movie REVEAL THE PATH for the week after the Boulder premiere in The Dairy’s Performance Space on June 5. To purchase tickets or see dates and times. It’s produced by the same outfit that made the very inspiring documentary RIDE THE DIVIDE a couple of years ago.
EB: Any parting thoughts?
GW: We’re starting a movie classics series on the third Sundays of each month. The first one, June 17, will be CASABLANCA (1942).
COMING IN JUNE – The Boulder Jewish Community Center will present The Tuesday Film Series.
