I am a student of change. The focus of my work with individuals and organizations is goal achievement and reaching goals requires change. I'm always learning about the latest techniques and research on how to make lasting changes with less effort so I can share that with my clients and apply it in my own life. 

 
I recently attended a workshop on overcoming resistance to change called "Becoming a Better You" by Peter Vajda, Ph.D. of True North Partnering. Here are three highlights of this program.
 
When change is inevitable and fear sets in, we tend to ask, "Why is this happening to me?" Vajda advised asking instead, "Why is this happening for me?" Do you see how that helps you switch from anxious victim to curious optimist?
 
Each week, program yourself to welcome change by:
  1. Doing something you "never have time to do."
  2. Doing something you hate to do.
  3. Doing something you're afraid to do.
  4. Doing something that's not like you. (If you need help deciding what that is, ask a friend, colleague or partner. They'll know!) 

Reduce fear and your resistance to change by regularly participating in right-brain activities, like painting and listening to music. These practices decrease stress and enhance your creative problem-solving skills.
