Greetings, Fellow Bioneers!
A message from Kenny Ausubel, Bioneers Co-Founder & CEO

Lightning will strike in just four weeks at the landmark 2012 National Bioneers Conference, illuminating the emergence of a critical mass for global transformation. At this watershed moment, it will be a feast of breakthrough knowledge and dynamic connections sparking across the synapses of the Community of Leadership that is Bioneers – and that is you.

We have oriented the conference to action and interaction and put major focus on Climate Action and Building Resilient Communities, Women’s Leadership and Feminomics, and Justice including democracy and social, racial and gender justice. We will feature the most intense programming ever before on Eco-nomics and Capitalism 2.0, Food and Farming, and Indigenous Wisdom. Special last-minute Indigenous guests from Ecuador will sound a Call To Action to halt heightened impending threats to the Amazon rainforest from oil development.

For most people, the conference is a life-changing experience. It is a golden opportunity to learn from and with the greatest social and scientific innovators of our time, and to connect professionally and personally with countless diverse leaders. In this time, we’re all called upon to be leaders. Please join us. It will be history in the making.

  Resilience. Communities. Networks. Part 2

By Scott Spann, Innate Strategies

“All of us who see, feel and live the challenges of our time are seeking to do something that’s never been done before: to cause a response at an order of magnitude that matches the threats we face.”

This is the second short glimpse into what we’re up to in this domain of “resilience” – who’s focusing on it, how and why. Last time we touched on “how”, and this time we’ll look at the “why” and a little of the “how.” We’ll say a bit more about the “who” in preparation for our gathering at the pre-conference workshop - Catalyzing a Resilient Communities Network.

Stopping Oil Exploration in the Ecuadorian Amazon

By Bill Twist, Co- Founder,
Pachamama Alliance

Just as global warming is heating up the planet, events are heating up in the Amazonian rainforest in southwestern Ecuador and right across the border in northern Peru. The Ecuadorean government has announced plans for the 11th Round of oil development in the area. The indigenous nationalities have made it known they’re strongly opposed to any oil exploration or development in the territories. Given the critical role the Amazonian rainforest plays in governing the global climate, stopping further oil development is imperative, as well as protecting the sovereignty of the native peoples.

SOCAP12 Conference

Upcoming SOCAP Conference Features
Kenny Ausubel and David Orr

The SOCAP (Social Capital Markets) annual conference has emerged as one of the leading-edge gatherings to reinvent economics and impact investing. It connects global innovators working to build a market at the intersection of money and meaning. It’s a golden opportunity to roll up your sleeves with deeply engaged investors, foundations, institutions and social entrepreneurs who are changing the way the world does business.

Kenny Ausubel will be moderating a panel on how we can align natural systems, human organizations and economic design in order create a resilient and equitable economy and society. One key is democratizing ownership at sophisticated levels, which could be the next major advance in social investing. The panel and following workshop will include David W. Orr on the groundbreaking Oberlin project, and Gar Alperovitz and Ted Howard on the innovative Evergreen Cooperative model in Cleveland, Ohio. All three will be at Bioneers as well to go deeper in the context of resilience.

Mother Jones Rocks National Election Landscape

Our esteemed media partner Mother Jones sent shock waves through the election landscape on September 17th with the release of a private videotape of Mitt Romney shot at a private Republican fundraiser. Romney dismisses 47% of the electorate as “victims” and freeloaders on “entitlements” of government aid such as food, education, and housing. Talk about sucking the oxygen out of the room.

Mother Jones will be hosting a panel at Bioneers 2012 that the MJ team also designed: Mother Jones Presents: Change the World, Not the Channel: Media for Social Change.
