Opening Reflection

Greetings friends, family, and my fellow constituents! Since the start of the 2023 Oregon Legislative Session, we have hit the ground running and are making excellent progress. I’ve been working diligently to make sure I represent district 39 well as I continue to fight for change. My staff and I are reviewing your concerns via email. I encourage everyone who is willing and able in district 39 to use your voice.

It’s black history month and I want to encourage all of you to attend a few of the community events coming up in order to support our youth and lead by example. Oregon State university is hosting a series of events on their Corvallis campus in honor of black history month. Kids and teens would benefit from attending any of the events from the series. This month is about celebrating black excellence, reflecting on our journey as a people, and honoring those who paved the way for our success.

The history of discrimination in Oregon isn’t easy to talk about and our community is still fighting to be seen and heard. I will always find ways to advocate and uplift anyone who decides to come to Oregon looking to advance economically to support themselves or their families.

My focus this legislative session includes sports policy, land use, health care , the allocation of the school district budget and a whole lot more. I want to send my well wishes and gratitude to those of you who have come out and shown your support via vote or donations.

In order to keep progressing towards economic ljustice its important to support one another including our local business owners and the events they host. Jazz has always been a pillar in the black community playing a role in the Civil Right Movement and holding a level of influence in music and culture for many years. I encourage all of you to attend the Biamp Jazz festival hosted by our own local music organization PDX Jazz from February 16th -25th. Celebrating their 20th year anniversary, the PDX event will be packed with legends and rising stars. I’m sure you see a familiar face or two and it’s a great way to close out black history month.

Thank you again for supporting me and finding ways to connect with me. I promise to continue to give you my best.

Semiconductors

One of my main priorities this session is to pass a semiconductor package. As apart of the semiconductor joint committee I see opportunity for economic development. A bill that creates state funding and land availability to provide incentives for applicants of the CHIPS Act is currently in progress.

In committee meetings we allow members of the community to share their experience out in the world and in the workforce.
