A GGRWHC Summary Writing Bee
Join GGRWHC at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015, for something like a quilting bee! We will be stitching together summaries of oral history transcripts for posting on our website. Don't worry if you don't "sew"! We have directions!
|
Ms. Liilian Gill (1917-2014) |
To finish the summarizing project we will meet on October 17 in the gazebo area at the northern end of Grand Valley State University's downtown campus (
Building C
). After entering from Winter Ave., where there is convenient, free parking, please meet in front of Starbucks on the first floor. Let us know you are coming by emailing,
info@ggrwhc.org,
or calling, 616.574.7307.
The bee will focus on GGRWHC interviews from the Council's Collection #167, housed at the Grand Rapids Public Library. These 49 oral histories were completed during the 1990s and cover women from a range of ages, from young career women who were also busy mothers and wives to active, older community volunteers. Most of the transcriptions to be summarized are between 14 and 17 pages, pages often filled with surprising facts about experiences of local women. You may well know some of them.
I
f you are uncertain about your skills, come anyway. We will provide a brief lesson, written instructions, and a form to follow. The objective will be to complete as many summations as time and participants are able.
Please join us for some interesting reading and a fun way to contribute to the preservation and dissemination of local women's history. Join us 10 a.m. Saturday, October 17, at GVSU downtown campus, Building C. Park free in the adjacent DeVos lot. Let us know you are coming by emailing, info@ggrwhc.org, or calling, 616.574.7307.
