"Bello Machre is one of the greatest organizations I've been involved with. I'm proud to say that I've been a supporter of this organization and the golf tournament for 25 years," long-time friend and supporter, Larry Simmons of Jefferson Leasing, stated.

If you were involved in last year's tournament then you already know it's a spectacular day of golf and giving!   Bello Machre is again looking for golfers and sponsors to participate in our 29th Annual Golf Tournament to be held Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course, Queenstown, Maryland.

Last year, we had a packed course participate in a Shotgun Start - Captain's Choice, making it our largest turn out yet. Golfers quickly made their way to the famous Sausage Stop at the 9th hole, had the chance to win a hole-in-one prize of $25,000, and enjoyed a wonderful silent auction.

Steve Collier, Skyline executive and golf participant, commented, "It always feels good to support a great organization that does wonderful things for our community. This is the best tournament I play in every single year!"

The 2013 Presenting Sponsor, Gordon Mumpower of Commercial Insurance Managers, continued his generosity by donating $10,000.  Gordon's generosity and support for Bello Machre has extended over 19 years -- he is a loyal and dedicated friend.

Generous Tournament Sponsorships demonstrate the kind of leadership that is so important in our community.  Click here if you would like to participate in an online sponsorship!

Every year we also place special green and yellow tee/green signs along the fairways of the golf course at our tournament in honor of or memory of those who are dear to us.   Interested in honoring a family member or friend, click here for more information on Fairway Tributes or make your Fairway Tribute online.

Bello Machre is always looking for ways to spice up our silent auction.   If you own a restaurant or store and want to donate a gift certificate, please contact Katie 443-702-3024 or mail it to our offices.   We are also in need of volunteers to help make phone calls and go out to pick up items already donated.   Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

We look forward to seeing you on the golf course!

A Lifetime Impression -
Employee Perspective

Coming to work at Bello Machre, I found out it's not like a regular job.  It's a job where people are embracing each others strengths and goals in life.  I've noticed that everyone has a way of making a lifetime impression on those they serve. Bello Machre seeks out our folks dreams and helps make them a reality. Most of all, we evolve and we change - we do it because it's in the best interests of the folks we serve.

(L to R) Lauren and Jackie

When I think about the folks we serve, I see that we are more alike than different.  I often think of a young lady that came into my life a couple of years ago, Lauren. When she came to us, I noticed that she was lonely and felt like she had lost everything in the world due to the death of her mother.  After building a relationship with her and then going through the same experience, I can connect with her in a way that is very special. I understand her more than ever before.  In building a relationship with her, I've come to find out that she now feels very fortunate and blessed and is living a fulfilling life at Bello Machre.

We have helped Lauren's dream come true!  She now lives on campus by herself in an apartment. She says, "I love my apartment.  But, my next order of business is to find a roommate - preferably one who can drive!"  With the love and support of her new Bello Machre family - the possibilities are endless for Lauren!

When I step back and take a look at myself, I know that this experience, where God has me in my life, has been very humbling.  All I want to do is set an example, not only for the staff, but the folks that I serve.  I want to continue to have a passion to serve with a spirit of excellence.

Jackie Hutton, long-time Bello Machre employee, reflects on her time with Bello Machre and Lauren, one of the folks we serve.

OW - what a great day for Bello Machre and the folks we serve.  Spirits were high and the enthusiasm was contagious from the hundreds who came out to walk and bike in Every Step Counts 2013.  Thanks to you, this year's event was by far the biggest and most successful ever, raising over $106,000!

Very special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Howard and Denise Schuffman of Dimensional Healthcare Associates of Owings Mills, Maryland, who donated $10,000 and our Premier Sponsor Corporate Brokers of Annapolis, Maryland who donated $7,500.  Check out our Press Release for more details.

Corporate Brokers put together a team of over 40 friends, family members, and colleagues to come out and support Bello Machre and the folks we serve.  Shane Ireland, CEO of Corporate Brokers, states, "Every Step Counts is fun for the whole family!  Our family loves coming out every year to support Bello Machre."

The event brought together friends and family, children and adults.  Everyone enjoyed the walk and bike, moon bounce, Lulu the Clown, live music by Medora, children's games and prizes, raffles, and great food.  We were also lucky enough to showcase the 811 - Call Before You Dig motorcycle, constructed by Paul Teutel on Discovery Channel's American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior and have special guest Jennifer Myers, who has the distinct honor of representing Maryland as America's Miss Maryland 2013.  Make sure to check out our Facebook page or YouTube slide show for all of the pictures from the day's festivities or click here to see our pictorial!

The storm clouds threatened rain but on the ground excitement for Bello Machre's annual Every Step Counts event was electric.  More than 60 volunteers came out to Anne Arundel Community College

on Saturday, June 8, 2013 to make sure the day went off without a hitch.

Volunteer Garfield Wright, came to lend a hand with his wife and daughter.  Five other volunteer families also made supporting Bello Machre part of their family time.  Garfield explains, "I enjoyed every minute of this volunteer experience. The volunteers had real team spirit."  Many volunteers spoke about the sense of unity among the many smiling faces.

Donna Ruth joined in the fun with her husband and two sons, "My favorite part about Every Step Counts was seeing how happy everyone was to be there.  Whether they're volunteering or walking - the enthusiasm was contagious." Student volunteer, Zander Feidelberg agrees, "People are excited to be able to get more involved in their community. Volunteering at Every Step Counts was a great experience."

Rod Corbin, a long-time friend and volunteer, said "The main thing that makes me come back every year is the love and dedication of Bello Machre's staff for the individuals they serve."  For best friends, Netta Hambury and Cathy Ayers volunteering for Bello Machre is like spending time with old friends.  "The past three years have been great," the ladies said, "we love seeing all the people at Bello Machre and we especially love to be helping hands to support such a great organization."

Our excited volunteers are ready for the festivites to begin!

In addition to the volunteer families that came out to make a difference, we welcomed volunteers from Anne Arundel Community College, the Key Clubs of Northeast County High School and Chesapeake High School, students from Glen Burnie High School and students from the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Whether they were lending a hand at the food station or the games area, the Every Step Counts volunteers have shown, once again, why Bello Machre has the BEST volunteers around! It was a fun day for everyone and it was great to see so many people come out to show their support and make the day a fun-filled event for the people served by Bello Machre.  If you're looking to donate your time for Bello Machre, contact our Volunteer Coordinator to see how you can be a helping hand. Can't wait to see you again next year!

A New Face in Development

Paul Erbes recently joined the Bello Machre team as Chief Development Officer. Working closely with the Development team, Paul will be focused on helping us dramatically grow our fundraising efforts through major gifts and planned giving.

Paul Erbes first learned about Bello Machre through a conversation at church with Mary Lynn Fisher and her invitation to learn more about our important work.  Paul comes to us with a background as a pastor and a regional manger for a Fortune 500 non-profit organization.  He has helped to lead several charities in serving people with addictions, criminal justice issues and homelessness.  Paul grew up in Minnesota where he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees.  He lived in Colorado and Wyoming before moving to Baltimore in 2005.

Paul (Center) enjoying some quality time with Mary Ellen & Michael at our Sunset home.

Paul explains, "My job will be to give our donors an opportunity to be engaged in the stories of the people we are serving here at Bello Machre. I want our donors to experience fulfillment in their lives by their ability to support and give to Bello Machre. This, in turn, supports the fulfillment the people we serve experience by leading enriched and happy lives."

"My philosophy of Development," Paul says, "is based on the teaching that it is more blessed to give than to receive.  Our role as an amazing organization is to help people receive those blessings through the act of giving."

Paul has been visiting all the Bello Machre homes to learn about our folks and the people who serve them. "It's truly amazing how touching these stories have been. I hope to share them with our donors-with people who want to do good and who are looking for ways to make a positive impact," Paul states.

Strengthening both the current and the long-term support for the people we serve, for their families, and for our employees is the end result of being able to expand our relationships with our donors.
