SEPTEMBER 2014

Suddenly, it's September.  The lazy days of summer may be behind us, but in the Northwest the season of Bounty is still going strong. This time of year we can barely keep up with all of the beautiful food available from local farms and foragers.  In the kitchen we're making pickles and preserves, looking ahead to leaner growing months. Trust me, opening a jar of pickled huckleberries in the dead of winter can really brighten the day.

Construction at the Central Agency Building continues at a steady clip. We often walk over in the afternoons to check out the latest additions to the site. Our friend Robert Cipollone, of Gensler architecture, has done a tremendous job designing the new space. Robert also designed the original Lark and he's carried over many beloved elements.  You'll see the same warm wood and subtle textures and colors.  Overhead, undulating rows of bare bulbs hang in a 'curtain of light', an ode to the curtains that have become a signature of Lark.

The Central Agency Building was built as part of the Old Auto Row on Capitol Hill in 1917.  Decades later it became a storage facility for Federal Government Records, including confidential FBI documents. The private dining room will be called Off the Record as a nod to the CAB's mysterious past.  Lark occupies part of the main floor, with a generously sized bar and cozy booths. Bitter/Raw is upstairs, on the large mezzanine level, a perfect perch to enjoy a cocktail and some oysters.  Slab Sandwiches + Pie is tucked behind Lark and has it's own entrance and daytime hours. When you need to grab a quick bite, this is the place.

We plan to open Bitter/Raw, Slab Sandwiches + Pie and Lark in the Central Agency Building at the beginning of November. Meanwhile, Lark will be open at our original home through the end of October. I hope we see you at Lark soon, for one last dinner in our 12th avenue space. We'll be participating in Seattle Restaurant Week during the last two weeks of October and expect that the dining room will be bustling. Call (206) 323-5275 anytime to make

reservation or use Open Table.  Enjoy the beautiful September weather!
