When Israel stood to receive the Torah, the Holy One said to them: "I am prepared to give you My Torah. Present to Me good guarantors that you will observe and study the Torah and I shall give it to you." They said: "Our ancestors are our guarantors." The Holy One said: "Your ancestors are not sufficient guarantors. Bring Me good guarantors, and I shall give you the Torah." They said: "Our prophets are our guarantors." The Holy One said: "The prophets are not sufficient guarantors. Bring Me good guarantors and I shall give you the Torah." They said: "Indeed, our children will be our guarantors." The Holy One said: "Your children are good guarantors. For their sake I give the Torah to you." We are kicking off the school year with a BIG weekend in store! As we welcome back our ECC and Religious School students, we will have our first Shabbat Mishpacha (Family Shabbat) service of the year this Friday evening. The service begins at 6:30 pm, but feel free to come early for some light refreshments. A special "apples and honey"-themed Oneg will follow. The service will be family-friendly - a worship experience full of songs, special blessings, a story, a short Torah service, and liturgy meaningful for those of all ages. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to join in celebrating Shabbat in true L'dor Va'dor fashion -- across the generations. This Friday evening will also be a Visual T'filah service, where all the songs and prayers will be projected onto a large screen on the bimah. Shabbat morning, Yossi Afek will lead our Torah Study session. Please note, this week Torah Study moves back to its 9:00 am start-time for the rest of the school year. Our Spice Up Your Judaism program begins at 10:30 am Saturday, and will be led by congregant Scott Kushner on the topic of "Exploring Your Personal Judaism." All are welcome! Religious School (for our 5th and 6th graders) and Junior Congregation also begin this Saturday morning. Our Shabbat morning service begins at 10:30 am in the chapel, led by Rabbi Frenkel, Cantor Jenkins-Adelberg, and Cantor Hochman, and will include the Bar Mitzvah of Andrew Greenberg. And, Sunday morning, we welcome our Kindergarten through 4th graders for their first day of Religious School. I love this time of year as we head into fall and the holiday and back-to-school season! We hope to see you at some point throughout the weekend! L'shalom, Rabbi Jennifer L. Frenkel
If you wish to have a Mi Shebeirach said during our Shabbat services, please let us know by noon each Friday so we can give the names to the rabbis.
