A Message From Principal Hall

Dear Dilworth Families,

Several years ago, the Dilworth Neighborhood School was created.  Our community came together to build a remarkable school that would offer all children equal access to high quality learning opportunities.  The partnership between teachers, parents, and the community has grown strong.  Our parents have committed both their time and financial support to ensure that all the children in our school community are provided a quality educational experience. Through generous donations, the resources available are immense and the learning opportunities expanded to include field trips, access to technology and most importantly a well-stocked library of leveled books to support our reading program.   The world of resources made available to us continues to have a significant positive impact on our students' academic growth and success.

Understanding the positive impact that these resources have had on student achievement at Dilworth and recognizing that not all schools have similar access to resources, was the impetus in forming a new school-to-school partnership.  Dilworth Elementary School is excited to announce that we have adopted Sedgefield Elementary as our sister school.  It is our hope that this partnership will provide them some of the same benefits that we enjoy for having an active and supportive community.

You are probably wondering what this partnership means and how it will look moving forward. Our initial focus will be to help provide access to literature for every child in every classroom. We are proud to say that during our fall used book drive we were able to secure many lightly used books and will be helping set up a "lending library" at Sedgefield.  This is a positive start, but we have a long way to go.  Our primary focus is to help our sister school establish an inventory of leveled readers that we know is so crucial to running an effective literacy program. Your Tip the Scales pledge form will allow you to allocate funds to this partnership if you choose.  Please note that if you do not note that you'd like to donate some of your Tip the Scales funds to this cause that no dollars from this campaign will be used to support this partnership.

More information is forthcoming regarding ways that you can participate in this rewarding partnership.  Some ways to become involved may include volunteering time to tutor or support children during reading workshop, or mentoring a child, or possibly just delivering materials collected here at the school to Sedgefield Elementary.  I will be sure to keep you updated as the details of this newly formed friendship develop but in the meantime I wanted to be sure that everyone was aware of our sister school,  Sedgefield.

Thank you for making Dilworth Elementary School such an amazing

place to grow and learn.

Sincerely,

Terry Cerio Hall
