The Eagle Academy Foundation: Eagle Insider - Educating Inner City Young Men

The Eagle Academy for Young Men of Southeast Queens Secures its Own Home

The Eagle Academy Foundation is proud to announce that the Eagle Academy for Young Men of Southeast Queens will be moving to its own school facility located in Jamaica, Queens in September 2012. The address of the new location is 171-10 Linden Boulevard, Jamaica, NY 11434, the current site of the Allen Christian School.

"Moving into a larger facility will allow Eagle Academy to build upon its existing model of improving educational outcomes for our young men of color," said David C. Banks, President & CEO of The Eagle Academy Foundation. "This historic partnership between The New York City Department of Education, The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York and The Eagle Academy Foundation will dramatically increase our ability to serve the community in Southeast Queens."

Eagle’s new school location will allow ample space for important resources such as specialized classrooms, science labs, technology, art studio, athletics, and music classes. Increased enrollment is also possible. The Eagle Academy is set to expand by a grade each year, until it reaches its full size as a middle-high school serving almost 600 inner city young men. It currently enrolls 6th and 7th graders from the Springfield Gardens/Jamaica neighborhoods in Queens, and shares space with I.S. 59, a much larger public middle school.

This is the second Eagle Academy to inhabit its own school facility. The flagship Eagle Academy of the Bronx moved to its own building in 2010.

Supported by the Eagle Academy Foundation, Eagle Academies feature small class sizes and a rigorous academic curriculum with an emphasis on college prep, a vibrant parent engagement program, and a mentoring program focused on exposure to professional male role models. Eagle scholars also participate in free extensive after-school, Saturday and summer programs.

We thank the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York and the New York City Department of Education for working to secure this ideal school facility for the Eagle Academy of Southeast Queens.
