2018 is going to be an exciting year for CQEC! We are recipients of three grants totaling over $22,500!

The Texas Bar Foundation has awarded CQEC $10,000 so we can provide scholarships to train people how to have Advance Care Planning (ACP) conversations. This particular grant is to be used to train people working with at risk populations, such as the homeless, the urban poor, older adults, and the LGBTQ community.

The Communities Foundation of Texas has awarded CQEC $5000, to help fund scholarships for ACP training, leadership training and begin a fundraising program.

We also received a $7750 strategic "seed money" grant from First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, to help us develop new partnerships and fund scholarships for at risk populations.

CQEC is excited to be at the vanguard of all this training, and we are thankful to our generous donors for their support and recognition of the importance of providing quality end of life planning for our community.
Advance Care Planning
In case you didn't know, CQEC provides Respecting Choices training for their First Steps and Last Steps programs. Respecting Choices is internationally recognized, and provides evidence-based training in a model that creates person-centered advance care planning.

The First Steps program is focused on helping people have meaningful discussion as they complete advance directives such as a living will and medical power of attorney. These are documents that every adult over the age of 18 should have.

The Last Steps program trains facilitators how to have conversations with people who are often older, and whose health is beginning to decline. When people reach this point, the Last Steps facilitator can help them think through what their goals of care are, and help them make informed decisions about the type of medical care they want as their health condition declines.

If you are interested in being trained, watch our website, as we will be offering training throughout the year. You will also find scholarship information on our website.
