Documentary Film
Sunday, January 7, 2018, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The National Council of Jewish Women, Sacramento is proud to host a community screening of the award-winning documentary film, "Little Stones" on Sunday, January 7, 2018, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the KOH library. The film follows four women as they use their art to combat violence against women.
 
Directed and produced by EMMY® Award-winning filmmaker Sophia Kruz, Little Stones follows Brazilian graffiti artist Panmela Castro, Senegalese rap-singer Sister Fa, Indian dance therapist Sohini Chakraborty, and fashion designer Anna Taylor as they use their art to combat violence against women and to empower women and girls globally- each of whom are contributing a stone to the mosaic of the women's movement through their art.
 
A suggested donation of $10 may be made at the door. A panel discussion with local arts therapists to follow. For more information, please contact info@ncjwsac.org.


Mitzvah Day-Sunday January 14
Participate in the fun of Mitzvah Day at CBI! 

Join us in  making  no-sew fleece blankets  for Wellspring Women's Center, which provides respite and services to women and children each weekday. We also will be offering the option of making  Pink Hats for the Women's March

Also, we are collecting the following items for comfort kits to support the Women's Empowerment Program. You can bring any of the following items for the comfort kits to the temple between now and January 12. LOOK FOR THE BIN IN THE OFFICE FOYER.
-Feminine Hygiene products
-Chapstick -New Socks - New Gloves
-Small Hygiene Products (i.e.lotion, shampoo, soap, tooth brush, tooth paste, deodorant)
-Healthy Snacks (preferably something soft)
-Comfort Snacks (small candy/packs of gum)
-Small Bottles of Water


Sacramento Women's March
Saturday January 20

The Women of B'nai Israel will again be joining with the women of our community to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. For more information: https://www.womensmarchsac.com/

We will be meeting at the pool building at Southside Park at 9:00 am, between 6th and 8th Streets.  You are welcome to first drive to the parking lot at CBI and carpool from there.
 

From Southside Park., we will walk behind our Women of B'nai Israel banner  west on T Street to 5th Street, then north on 5th to Capitol Mall, then east to the Capitol building where the rally will convene on the West Steps. Board Meeting

The Women of B'nai Israel  board   meets at the CBI Conference Room from 6 to 8 pm. All members are invited to attend.
 

Our End of the Year Activities


The community enjoyed nostalgic afternoon of Klezmer music, dancing,  and Yiddish songs with the local band " Marc Epstein and the KlezmeerKatz." The event was sponsored by Women of B'nai Israel, with special thanks to Sharon Rogoff and Nita Davidson.


Sheri Zeff preformed a lively and humorous "Yidl Mit'n Fid'l".
 


 
Thanks to Deni Deutsch Marshall for leading a joyous eighth night of Chanukah celebration for the Women of B'nai Israel Rosh Chodesh, with the assistance of Judy Emick-Leatherwood.  
 
 

A HUGE thank you to the people who volunteered
to serve the Christmas meal at St. John's Shelter
for Women.  Even though there was a major foul-up
in the time, the following women stayed until the very
end of the meal.  Jan Gutierrez, Elaine Berghausen,

It's Not Too Late to Renew Your 2017-18 Membership!
We have many fun, interesting, and enjoyable events and activities planned for next year. From social action projects, such as Family Promise, programs that enrich your spiritual life, such as Rosh Chodesh, and just plain fun events, such as the annual Fall Fashion Show, your membership is a gift to yourself and to your community.  The Women of B'nai Israel is an integral part of our congregation, and, through our participation in the national organization Women of Reform Judaism.

Ongoing and Future Events
 
Help the Homeless- Sunday February 11th
Help us  make 400 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless in the Social Hall starting at 1:30 PM. The more hands, the faster we will get done!
 

Rosh Chodesh Adar - Tuesday February 13  
Join Women of B'nai Israel and Rabbi Alfi for Rosh Chodesh Adar on Tuesday February 13th at 6:00 pm in the Social Hall.  We begin with a dairy potluck and then will watch Arnon Goldfinger's "The Flat," a documentary about his shocking discovery   when his grandmother died at the age of 98 he was charged with cleaning out her Tel Aviv apartment. The film had its world premiere at the Jerusalem International Film Festival, where it was named best documentary in 2011, and was picked up by Sundance Film Festival in 2012. Join us for this amazing film! All women age 13 and over welcome.  No RSVP necessary.
 
 


Shabbat Service -Friday February 23
at 7:30 PM 

Join the Women of B'nai Israel as we participate in Shabbat Services with Rabbi Alfi and welcome Julia Weinstein, who is the Vice-President of Advocacy, Marketing & Communications for Women of Reform Judaism. She currently also serves as Pacific District VP of Marketing & Communications.
         
As an attorney and a member of the bars of California and New York, Julia is experienced at conflict management and resolution. She has conducted conflict management and resolution workshops and programs for WRJ, for the Pacific District and for individual sisterhoods.
 
Julia also has experience in the area of marketing and communication. In addition to her duties as her sisterhood's Marketing & Communications Chair, she currently oversees all WRJ Pacific District marketing and communications, including the district email newsletter, website and Facebook page. She has served on the WRJ Marketing and Communications Committee and collaborated on the WRJ Marketing Toolkit. She has conducted marketing and communications workshops for the Pacific District and for individual sisterhoods.
