Hot Lunch News: Dates and a Call for Volunteers
Our next hot lunch date will be Tuesday, February 19 -- the day we return from Winter Break. Since we have no school on Friday, February 15, hot lunch forms must be turned in by 8:30 a.m. Thursday, February 12, to avoid paying the late fee. Hot lunch forms are given to students in their classrooms, but if you don't get one, extras can usually be found in the manila folder taped to the front of the teacher mailboxes (next to parent mailboxes). On the 19th our students will enjoy pasta with meatballs, tossed salad, and whole wheat bread (or a vegetarian plate if they prefer).
We are in desperate need of volunteers to prepare and serve hot lunch every Tuesday. We know a number of community members enjoy sharing time together in the School Store in the mornings; we would love it if, on hot lunch Tuesdays, you could move that wonderful fellowship from the store into the kitchen to lend a hand! Sign-up sheets for hot lunch volunteers are posted near the parent mailboxes.
Valentine's Day Ice Cream Servers Needed
Parent Ken Koprowski generously donated a large quantity of ice cream to the school, which we decided to use as a special treat to share among our students on Valentine's Day. (We have also purchased dairy-free sherbet as a treat for our students with dietary restrictions.) We're looking for able hands and smiling faces to help dish up and serve this treat to our students between 12:00 and 1:30. February 14 is an early dismissal day, so if you can, please plan to come even a little earlier and help us do something special for our students. If you're interested, sign up on the Volunteer Board (near the school store) or email Hazel.
The New Website Is Live!
We are pleased to announce that the new SGWS website is up and running. The new site carries the same "look" as our promotional materials, which were redesigned last year as a part of our rebranding process. This site has been improved to include an "SGWS Parent" section where you will find common forms, policies, events, and recent school communications. Take a few minutes and go to www.sgws.org and check it out. In an effort to support parents' needs, the web site is designed to work well with mobile devices. Please let us know if there is information you would like to be able to find on our site that is not currently available. We are open to suggestions and look forward to serving the parent community in this new way.
Thanks to All for a Productive Workday
The Work Day Saturday was very well attended, and we want to thank all of you who came out to pitch in -- especially those who weren't even scheduled to work! We can't stress enough the importance of these workdays both to our school and to our community. Our own stewardship of our facility allows us to maximize our operating budget, and the fellowship of shared work makes our community stronger. Thank you all for your ongoing hard work!
Special Event Thursday, February 14, 5:30 p.m. Valentine Community Spirit Pot-Luck and Open Mic Night in the SGWS Gym
Come one and all for an evening of bread-making, heartfelt fellowship, and fun! We will provide beverages, you bring table service for yourself and a dessert, soup, or salad to share. And bring your talents as well! An Open Mic sign-up sheet will be posted outside the office.
We welcome your help with set-up, clean-up, and bread-making. If you're interested, contact Lerryn Campbell at 330-730-2746 or Miriam Schuman.
Akron Youth Symphony Concert - Sunday, February 17, 3:00 p.m.

Come out and see how the SGWS music program echoes into the broader musical community! Tickets are free at the door. For program details, please visit akronsymphony.org/youth-orchestras.

Annual Auction Fundraiser April 20, 2013
The auction is one of our largest fundraising events, and it requires a lot of support from the community. Please contact the Auction Committee Chair Jennifer Myers if you are able to help as a committee member or are interested in working at the auction to set up, sell raffle tickets, or help out with the silent auction. Get in touch with your Parent Council rep to create your child's class auction item -- always a daunting but rewarding task! And consider asking the business you frequent to buy an ad for the auction program or to donate goods or services for the auction. If we all come together -- head, heart, and hands -- we can make this important event a great success.
