A Note from

        February 5, 2013

Congratulations, Jaguars!

We are so very proud of our student athletes!

All three of our teams played hard and with a great deal of heart this year. And our 6/7 Grade Boys really shined this season, finishing in first place.

Our athletes' successes could not have been possible without the dedication of our coaches: Steve Moss, Cliff Bender, Steve Catalano, Jack McWhorter, and Tom Humes, and (of course) our Athletic Director, Nancy Stewart.

The tournament schedule will be posted near the gym, and dates for all games will be published in our Tuesday and Friday emails.Even if your own child doesn't play, we encourage you to come out to tournament games and cheer our amazing players toward victory.  Go Jaguars!

... and Congratulations, Coach Stewart!

Skylar Beck, SGWS alum and now a junior in high school, nominated our Athletic Director, Nancy Stewart, as the teacher who most influenced her life. In a moving awards ceremony last week, Nancy received the award while someone read aloud Skylar's words about why Nancy was so influential.

We are very proud of you, Coach Stewart. You have touched many lives!

A Special Word of Thanks

For the past six years, Cordell Caley has been instrumental in creating and supporting our website, email system, and other IT needs. He has provided technical expertise and logged countless hours to help with these important tools in our daily work. Parents like Cordell make a significant impact to SGWS. Thank you Cordell!

Service Contract Hours

In reviewing the Service Contract Hour log, we've noticed a number of families with blank sheets in the binder ... even some families we know have put in many, many hours in the past few months! We'd like to ask everyone to please take a few moments in the next week to make sure that you have recorded all your Service Contract Hours, as we will soon be in the process of contacting families who are still behind. Please remember that you are contractually obligated to perform your Service Contract Hours (for most families, 30 hours per school year) or you will be charged at the rate of $30.00 per hour for any hours not completed by May 31, 2013.

We'd also like to remind you again that, per the terms of your contract, either two hours or a minimum of 20% of your required Service Contract Hours (whichever is greater) must be completed during an assigned Work Day. Even if you have recorded over 30 hours of work in other areas (such as classroom laundry or working in the School Store), if you have not fulfilled the Work Day requirement, your account will be charged for deficient Work Day hours.

Assigned Work Day - Saturday, February 9, 2013

Hazel will be sending out an email today to those families who have been assigned to this work day. On our January work day, we had a number of families either cancel at the last minute or simply not show up, which meant that we did not get the chance to complete all the important projects we'd hoped to take care of prior to our Open House. This Saturday we may be doing some pruning outdoors, but most of our work will be indoors: painting ceilings, cleaning, checking light fixtures, and doing some plumbing maintenance. Even if this isn't your assigned day, please feel free to join us in supporting Mr. Vargo in his thoughtful stewardship of our building and grounds.

Save the Date: The SGWS Auction Is April 20, 2013

On April 20, SGWS will host its 24th Annual Auction at the Rosemont Country Club. In order for us to meet our goals for this important fundraising event, we are asking for your support. There are a number of ways to get involved:

      - Join the Planning Committee. Many of the tasks are simple and can easily be

on your own schedule and/or from your home.

      - Work with your child's class to create a beautiful item for the live auction.

      - Volunteer to help at the event (setting up, selling raffle tickets, assisting with the

           silent auction)

      - Seek ads for the program book and financial sponsors for the event.

Don't forget to tell your family and friends to join the fun for an evening of food, wonderful items to purchase, and entertainment. Please send the names and addresses of anyone you would like to receive a personal invitation to Auction Committee Chair Jennifer Myers.

Together, we can continue to grow and be able to share this exceptional educational opportunity with not only the children of today, but the children of our future. We look forward to your participation in this event!
