Join Us as We Unveil A Novel Idea 2017!
Every year since 2004 thousands of Deschutes County residents have read, discussed and engaged with one book annually as part of "A Novel Idea... Read Together," the Deschutes Public Library's community reading program. The public is once again invited to take part in the unveiling of the next "A Novel Idea" selection. Join us on December 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Downtown Bend Library for this fun and free evening courtesy of the Deschutes Public Library Foundation. Once the 2017 selection is unveiled, books will be available for sale and for check out. Be the first to know!
Stop By the Library and Enjoy the Art!
Art by Donna Rice
From fiber art to oil painting, you'll find inspired art on display in libraries this fall. The Sunriver Library is showing fabric art from Donna Rice and woodworking by Greg Cotton; an artists' reception takes place on November 18 at 3:00 at the Sunriver Library. The Redmond Library hosts a variety of artists and art forms, including fused glass, lively framed landscapes, acrylic paintings that capture the majesty of horses, wearable art of fused fabrics, abstract paitings and wire and button rings made from recycled materials. At the Downtown Bend Library you'll find art in a a variety of mediums, all centered on the theme of the High Desert. And at the Sisters Library the meeting room walls are enlivened by the work of members of the Central Oregon Spinners and Weavers' guild; in the computer area you'll find the photography of William Fettkether, who studied under Ansel Adams.
Help for Small Businesses with SCORE
Perfect for small business owners, and those in the planning stages! Are you able to interpret financial reports and make decisions based on the data they provide? Can you draft an accurate budget? Join fellow entrepreneurs to learn about the budget format, identify key assumptions including revenue, cost and overhead and begin to build a budget for your business. These sessions are free, but participation is limited to 20 and registration required. You will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one guidance from a SCORE mentor. (Redmond, 11/10; D. Bend, 11/16) And don't forget, the Downtown Bend Library hosts weekly small business counseling sessions (dates at right under Event Spotlight).

Early literacy story times at your library are designed to introduce activities that develop a love of books and skills that prepare a child for reading. And with Animal Adventures story times with the High Desert Museum, kids can meet live animals, hear stories about the animal, and do fun crafts.
