This Friday and Saturday, December 8 & 9, 2017, Quilts & Treasures is proud to be hosting a true Maine fisherman who will be demonstrating fly-tying! Yes, you read that right....fly-tying in a quilt shop! If you're intrigued, keep reading!
Fly-tying is a creative craft that requires patience, practice, use of color and texture, special tools, and a stash!! Sound familiar?

Our guest is Nelson Haynes of Cumberland, Maine. He owns and operates Royal River Fishing Flies and Lures. His flies and lures have been sold in LLBean and used by former President George Bush. Mr. Haynes started tying flies in 1948 at the age of 14. He has almost 70 years of experience! He designed the Half Nelson Fishing Fly and a few years ago designed a special pink Breast Cancer fly which we had at our Quilt For A Cure event. At the height of his business he was tying 55,000 flies per year, both fresh water and salt water. He's proud to tell people that his flies have been used on 6 of the 7 continents. In addition to fly-tying, Mr. Haynes has been a 50 year member of Kiwanis, is the longest serving Commander of American Legion Post #164 and created the Reverse Annuity Mortgage! (I wonder if Tom Selleck knows! The American Advisors Group wrote a history. Read about it here.)

Mr. Haynes will be demonstrating fly-tying at our store on Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-3. In honor of this, we invite you to come meet him, watch his demonstration, and enjoy some "fish" specials!

All fish themed and outdoors themed fabrics will be 25% off.

Fill out a survey and get a free fish quilt block pattern.
We'll be tabulating the responses for a Quilter's Feud (Family Feud) type entertainment at our Quilt For A Cure Day this year!

Watch a demonstration on the Creative Icon of some fish stitches - a floating stitch and a stacking stitch.

See some new samples of fish related patterns. Great holiday gifts!

Husbands welcomed! If they share a fishing joke, or a fishing story, or can even just name a fish, they will receive a free gift!

And if you get hungry, Koffee Tyme said they will have a special on their Tuna fish sandwiches!!
