Church,

I would like to thank Pastor Travis for giving me an opportunity to offer a rebuttal to last week’s column by the Women’s Ministry Team. In the ladies' article, they offered that the solution to “finding satisfaction and contentment in a dissatisfying world” was by way of a S hort & Sweet Retreat. Well, speaking on behalf of Men’s Ministries, we could not disagree more. While we do acknowledge the place for “yummy sweets” offered in isolation, they simply provide a brief sugar fix and eventually leave participants “empty and wanting.”  This is supported by Proverbs 25:27 which states “ It is not good to eat too much honey , nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep .

Men’s Ministries believes that a short, sweet retreat is not the answer, but what is needed today, is an all-out advance on food, which includes food from the four other food groups (bacon, red meat, coffee & something white and starchy). Additionally, the men of MCC will never be accused of being too deep, in fact a couple of Sundays ago, we were compared to children by Sarah Bond during the announcements. We of course took that as a complement, since Jesus told his disciples that, " unless you turn and become like children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

So please join us on October 14th from 3:30-6:30pm. The event begins with some competitive activities from 3:30-5:00pm and dinner will be served from 5:00-6:30pm. The menu includes:

  • Steak Tips
  • Baked Potatoes
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Bread
  • Apple Crisp with Ice Cream
  • & a keg of Root Beer.

We understand the unnecessary burden and stress that a registration deadline creates, so you don’t have to even tell us you’re coming. This will enable you to have the freedom to make a game day decision or invite anyone you want - friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. Unfortunately, since there is an already an event offered to the women of MCC, we will need to restrict this event to men and boys only.
