New Tax Act
This newsletter would not be complete without a shout-out to the new tax act. This law will impact many of our client and there will no longer be deductions for spousal support beginning January 1 st 2019. This will mean that our trustee Dissomaster™ will have to be adjusted to take into account the new tax laws. There may be other ramifications for our clients as the dust settles. Walzer Melcher will be lecturing and writing about these ramifications in the new year.

Crypto Currency Bitcoins and Coinye
These digital currencies are the hot new asset. Apparently spouses are using this hide money from each other. Walzer Melcher will be on top of uncovering these nefarious private currencies and outing the wrongdoers.

We are excited to announce the addition of our new paralegal Bill Stevens. Bill graduated from Santa Clara University in 2002 and began his legal career at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow Garrett and Dunner (say that five times fast) where he worked on fascinating cases involving digital rights management and brain surgery clamps. Deciding this work was not exciting enough, he moved to Los Angeles to work at O’Melveny & Myers where he worked on high stakes business litigation in between being profiled as a paralegal fashion trendsetter . As there were no more lands left to conquer, Bill decided to join Walzer Melcher to focus on more important matters of the family. Bill’s other interests involve trying to keep up with current events, politics, pop culture and baseball.
Congratulations to our Legal Administrator, Michelle McPherson Campbell, who was one of three selected recipients for the Maureen Varnes Memorial Scholarship of the Greater Los Angeles Association of Legal Administrators. The scholarship pays for her 2018 dues for membership in both the national and local chapters. Michelle looks forward to another year of growing her skillset, networking with colleagues, and increasing her value to Walzer Melcher.
Mr. & Ms. Claus
Get A Prenup
This holiday season, Walzer Melcher represented Mr. and Ms. Claus in writing their premarital agreement. It was a contentious negotiation as Ms. Claus (represented by Chris) wanted to retain full possession of the elves and Mr. Claus (represented by Peter) wanted to retain full possession of the reindeer in the event of a split. Fortunately, they were able to reach an amicable agreement before the holiday gifting season. Walzer Melcher added a unique choice of an elf claus to the agreement.
