A New Chapter at the Foundation: A Message from BPLF President Trish Hawthorne

Kirsten Cowan, our talented Executive Director for the past three years, will be leaving that role on December 31.  She has been a wonderful leader and partner with the Foundation board, and I know that many library supporters have loved working with her, as we have. She is beginning an exciting new chapter in her life, and we wish her all the best.

Kirsten's sentiments reflect those of many of us;

"Being part of creating four new libraries in a town where I know they will be loved, used and cherished for generations to come will always be a source of tremendous pride and delight for me. I am grateful to all of you. You know the value of your libraries and of all who use them, and it shows!"

The board has appointed a search committee for our new Executive Director, and its work has begun.  A detailed job description will be posed at bplf.org in mid-September.  If you have questions or suggestions to aid our recruitment, please

e-mail [email protected]

Together, we look forward to extending the mission of the Berkeley Public Library Foundation: to augment public funding with contributions from people like you, so that our great library can thrive, grow and bring its transformative impact to everyone.

Books You Never Have to Return!

Sometimes you want a book to live forever on your shelf. And sometimes you want to let your books go to new homes. For 60 years, the Friends of the Library have been collecting and selling donated books, raising vital funds for Library programming such as Summer Reading. We'll be toasting our Friends' anniversary at a public party in the Central Library on September 17 at 4 pm, and all year long with their commemorative Library Card! Learn more about the Friends' bookstores and their work on their website.
