E.Guigal's Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde represents a wine of finesse and complexity and is made mainly from Syrah and up to 20% Viognier. It is harvested from two areas of the Côte-Rôtie appellation situated in the northern most Rhone area: the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde.

According to historical legend, a lord deeded the Côte Brune to his dark-haired daughter and the Côte Blonde to his blonde daughter. The soils of the Côte Brune are indeed darker, containing more iron and some clay, evoking 'tougher' wines with dark fruits and nauces of meat and smoked bacon whereas the paler Côte Blonde soils have more sand and limestone, and are the home of more Viognier plantings evoking 'elegance' with delicate, floral, honeysuckle notes.
