This week we have the pleasure of having Columbia River Salmon caught by the Yakama Tribe! This tribe uses an
interdisciplinary and sustainable approach to operate a fisheries program with approximately 40 employees.
This is not a new practice, as Northwestern Native Americans have caught salmon from the Columbia River for thousands of years, but times have not always been easy for them in this.
Seafood buyers for some time offered meager prices to the Natives citing that certain methods of storing product were not up to commercial standard, and with the incredibly successful marketing campaign of the Copper River Salmon, consumers didn't view Columbia River salmon for the high quality wild Salmon that it is. Thankfully, this have been overcome over the past 10 years or so and now prices for for Columbia River Salmon have balanced out among the more well known Copper River salmon.
Being paid what the salmon is worth has aided the Yakama tribe greatly, allowing them to hire more hands, create more small businesses, market their product to a global market and most importantly care for their families. Today all over the world, the Yakama's Columbia River salmon is viewed as some of the tastiest salmon in the world. Chefs from around the world swear by this product, and best of all using this product directly helps the Yakama continue to do what they have done for centuries, namely catch some of the best salmon in the world.
We're proud to offer this product as one our headlining specials, we hope you come out to try a salmon with a heritage as rich as it tastes!
