A Message from MWBC's Managing Director

As we near the end of the year, the Maryland Women's Business Center (MWBC) closed out our Fifth Anniversary celebrations with a bang. When we launched our kick-off breakfast on November 5th, 2015, I mentioned that we had a $100,000 fundraising goal to achieve by October 2016. I'm happy to report we surpassed this goal through new funding support attained from the Coca-Cola Foundation, Walmart Foundation, Prince George's County Council, and the City of Bowie!

During three special fifth anniversary events held throughout the year, we shared client achievements, initiatives, and our goals with stakeholders, sponsors, friends, and supporters. At our inaugural Awards Luncheon on October 6th, we highlighted women entrepreneurs who are making a difference throughout the State of Maryland. This year's Women Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Kimberlee Driggs, President of D2, LLC. Minority Woman Business of the Year was awarded to Houri Tamizifar, Founder of Cynuria Consulting, LLC. The Woman Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Charlisa Watson, President of CRW & Associates, LLC. MWBC Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Stephanie Lewis of The Entrepreneur's Source, and MWBC Corporate Partner of the Year was awarded to Reginald Exum of Citi Community Development. We are also extremely thankful to our event sponsors and individual donors who supported us every step of the way.

MWBC's overall goal is to ensure we provide the best training and counseling services to women entrepreneurs, and assist more than 1,500 women per year to explore, start and/or expand women-owned enterprises positioned for long-term growth in our community. FY16, we were able to help women create 24 new businesses and support 99 new jobs, attain access to $553,075 in capital, and generate $2.3 million in gross revenue. The journey we are on to support women entrepreneurs has been both rewarding and challenging, and we could not do it without the support of our staff, funders, volunteers, and resource partners.

However, our fundraising efforts are ongoing in order to maintain operations, expand our geographic locations, and diversify our program offerings. So, I would like ask you to join us today in showing your commitment to support women entrepreneurs. To support our program and the women we serve click here.

Cheers to success!
