Trevor Roznowski loves sports but realized how important extra conditioning workouts are to his performance. He even spent the month of July doing a Group Ex Rocks challenge to change up his workouts.
He discovered a love of Yoga and Step classes and his appreciation grew for all types of fitness. He's off to college and made the track and field team! Congrats, Trevor! Check our BAC FB page for his inspiring story that aired on our 6pm news!

Power of 10 Winner
Congratulations to Ellie Siegert, this month's Power of 10 Winner! She is getting $10 in BAC Bucks because she was consistent enough with her fitness to get at least 10 check-ins at BAC or Bay Urban last month.
Fitness has always been a must in Ellie's life. She remembers doing TurboKick in her living room with her sister, swimming, biking and always being on a sports team. Ellie knows she's a happier, more energetic person when she gets in a workout every day. Lift & Shred and Cycle are her favorite classes at BAC and Body Beauty is her all-time favorite Boot Camp. Even in high school she could tell Body Beauty made her a better athlete. Now she is training for life.
Want to be our next Power of 10 Winner? Check in at least 10 times at BAC and/or Bay Urban Fitness this month to be eligible!

Community Outreach
Our monthly Sweat for a Cause workout had a great turnout this past Friday night. There was a lot of sweat, calories burned and money raised for the upcoming Tunnel to Towers 5K. BAC was excited to raise $120 for the charity.
Bay Athletic Club was happy to host a group of children from The Salvation Army as part of a field trip. They got to learn about the power of healthy foods and do some fun workout circuits in the BAC group exercise studio.
If you would like BAC to help with your community event or field trip use this form to apply.

Back by popular demand: Cookies N' Cream Shakeology. This classic combination will satisfy those chocolate dessert cravings!
Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems. It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.
It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Lemon Garlic Basil Shrimp and Farro
Ingredients:
-1 cup dry farro
-2 tablespoons olive oil
-1 small onion, diced
-4 cloves garlic, minced
-2 cups dark leafy green (beet greens, kale, spinach, swiss chard), sliced
-Kosher salt
-Freshly ground black pepper
-¼ rice wine vinegar
-4 cups low-sodium chicken broth, heated to a simmer
-1 1/2 pounds uncooked peeled and deveined medium shrimp
-1 cup loosely packed chopped fresh basil leaves
-3 tablespoons unsalted butter
-3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
Place the farro in a large saucepan and cover with 2 inches of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer uncovered until the farro is tender but still firm to the bite, 20 to 30 minutes. Drain.
In a large cast iron pan, over medium heat add the onion and sauté until soft and translucent, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute more. Stir in the farro, along with a big pinch of salt and a few generous grinds of pepper.
Add the wine and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan with a wooden
spoon. Stir until it has all evaporated, about 1 minute.
Add a ladleful of the hot broth and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the farro has absorbed almost all of the broth. Add the dark leafy greens and continue adding ladlefuls of the broth and stirring until it's absorbed, until the farro is creamy, 8 to 10 minutes total.
Season the shrimp with salt and pepper and add them to the pan. Continue to stir until the shrimp is opaque, 2 to 3 minutes, adding more broth as needed to keep the farro creamy and not dried out (you might not use all of the remaining stock). Remove from the heat and stir in the basil, butter, and lemon juice. Taste and season with additional salt and pepper as needed. Serve immediately.

An idea that was BORN with my first born.
When the BAC newsletter is scheduled to go out on my daughter's 14th birthday, I think it's a sign that I should include her in my article. There are many lessons in my heart from being a working mom in fitness. Let m
e share one.
Jade came into this world 14 years ago while I was in a brand new town trying to find my way in the world. My husband, Jeff, was the new superintendent of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. I was enjoying being home with Jade, doing freelance writing for some magazines and teaching local group fitness classes for fun.
Being home with her, rocking on our porch swing, taking long walks in her stroller, hiking along the lake at Besser Bell... gave me the time and space to daydream and think about our life and our future in Alpena. It was during this time that the idea of Bay Athletic Club came to light.
I wanted to help create a happy, healthy community to raise my children. I wanted to put down roots in this town and give my kids something to be proud of. I wanted to start a crusade that others would be a part of.
I knew that as a young mom, fitness saved my sanity, gave me confidence, boosted my energy and introduced me to friends and a social life outside of playdates and doctors' appointments. I thought that others might want that, too!
So, with a baby in my arms (and soon another on the way), I made business plans, called banks, read reports, studied the fitness industry and just dug deep in my soul! I talked to friends, family and people all across my community. Soon after, BAC was born. Jade has been raised alongside fitness. I hope the example that we set at BAC helps other families all across our region. I know that Jade loves fitness, sports and being active in the great outdoors. I hope that part of this came from the influence of BAC in her life! She is surrounded by amazing role models on our team and in our membership (you!)
A final thought.... I encourage you to give yourself the space, time and freedom to think to daydream and to wonder... "what if?" Some of my best ideas (from volunteer projects to business growth to family trips) have come from times in my life where I disconnect from to-do lists, errands and technology to just think. Whether it's on a walk, enjoying a breeze on the patio or having a coffee over a sunrise, I like the "space" in my day to just..... be.
Let yourself go there. Accept some calm in your life. Accept some quiet in your life.
There are ideas waiting to be whispered to you.
Sincerely, Trina Gray, Owner, Bay Athletic Club
