Time for Our Fall Gift Card Shopping Spree!
It's a Chamber Buy One, Get One Offer
The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce purchases many gift cards from its members throughout the year to be used as door prizes and giveaways for various promotional projects. We are in the process of replenishing these gift cards and want to extend a special offer that's exclusively for Chamber members.

For every $10 gift card that is donated by your business, the Chamber will purchase another $10 gift card from you as well. Please mail your gift cards to the Chamber offices at 630 Market Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952, and we'll reciprocate upon receipt. And if you're not a business that offers gift cards, consider supporting your favorite restaurant, retailer, or other business by purchasing and sending one in from them. We'll match those as well and mention that they were "sponsored" by you.

Up-to-Date Information from the Ohio and United States Chamber of Commerce
All For Ohio: Williams Co.

On Tuesday, September 12, Williams Company hosted the Ohio Chamber along with Representative Andy Thompson as we continued our 2017 All For Ohio Tour. A member since March of last year, Williams invited us out to tour their Utica East Ohio (UEO) Harrison Hub facility in Scio, OH. UEO is a project dedicated to developing infrastructure for the gathering, processing and fractionation of natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL). The Utica Shale play in eastern Ohio makes these processes possible.

The first part of the visit included a facility tour of their Kilgore Compressor Station located in Carroll County, OH, a site they’ve maintained since December 2013. Compressor stations compress the natural gas to much higher pressures that allow the product to be transported via pipeline to its intended destination. The continued expansion of these facilities is strengthening Ohio’s reputation as a major player in the natural gas industry.

Small Businesses Know
It's Time for Tax Reform

Throughout 2017, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has traveled across the country to speak with small business owners about what actions Congress needs to take to unleash Main Street growth.
The message from job creators is clear: they want to hire more workers, purchase new equipment and technology, and invest in their local communities. However, with a tax rate as high as 44.6 percent, many small businesses are forced to send the money they would’ve used to grow their businesses back to Washington.

To ignite small business growth, Congress must pass comprehensive tax reform that lowers tax rates for job creators. When Main Street is able to keep more of the money they earn and send less money to Washington each year, workers across the country will see higher paychecks, more job opportunities, and a stronger economy.

Great Books About Business With Just A Click

Your link to success begins at the library. Each week in "In The Know,"
you to a business book or magazine that will inspire, teach, inform, or elevate you, professionally and personally. This week's book is:

The Right Kind of Crazy
by Adam Steltzner
with William Patrick

The Right Kind of Crazy: A True Story of Teamwork, Leadership, and High-Stakes Innovation is the true story of how an unlikely leader helped inspire a team of rocket scientists to achieve the near impossible: landing a two-thousand pound rover on Mars. Few organizations solve as many impossible problems as NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and nobody knows more about leading rocket scientists to unlikely breakthroughs than Adam Steltzner. As the phase lead and development manager for EDL (entry, descent, and landing) of the Curiosity rover to Mars, Steltzner spearheaded the creation of one of engineering's wackiest kluges-- the sky crane-- that allowed the heaviest rover in the history of space exploration to land on Mars unscathed.

Today in History

- September 15, 1998 -

Twentysomethings Larry Page and Sergey Brin filed the necessary papers to incorporate their search-engine firm Google, forever changing the world's Internet browsing habits. As this History.com article details , not only would Google "become the world's most-used search engine," but "the word 'google' entered the lexicon as a verb meaning to search the World Wide Web for information about a person or topic." Of course, Google would eventually conquer more than our search engines. It would go on to conquer our calendars, our maps, and soon our cars and eventually our lifespans, placing it at the center of many ethical debates about the future.
