60 Second Inspirations

Sandie Welch was wearing a size 24 pant with a "stretch" built in, but today she is in a size 14!  A Corporate Fit Challenge last fall completely changed this woman's life!  She has more energy, is off medications and knows her life is going uphill instead of down.  Don't miss this story when our "60 Second Inspiration" series returns on Monday, October 1st on the WBKB 6pm news and you can always catch the replay on our Facebook page the next day.

We have gifted dozens of BAC stadium blankets in September to members who have hit their 100th check in!  We've also given out sideline chairs to Nancy Garant, Amy Kieliszewski and Margaret Negro for hitting their 200th check in!  It's been an exciting month in so many ways. Wherever you're at, you are on track to earning yourself a BAC Rewards gift if you keep your workouts consistent. You can do it too!

Here's the quick 411 on BAC Rewards: we want to reward YOU, our members, for making fitness a priority year round.  Members who get at least 100 check-ins during 2018 will receive a red BAC sweatshirt blanket: perfect for picnics, sporting events or snuggling on the couch.  Members who get at least 200 check-ins during 2018 will get the blanket and the sideline chair!  Oh...it comes with a carrying case too!

NEW IN SEPTEMBER: all new members who get at least 20 check ins during their first two months at BAC will earn this shirt!  We wanted our BAC Rewards program to offer perks even for members starting in the middle of the year too.

No strings attached, just more BAC SWAG and incentive for you, our valued members.

Community Outreach

We beat the drum this past Friday night for Sweat for a Cause and raised over $100 for the Michael Polaski Memorial Foundation. You can also take part in the color run hosted by the foundation this coming weekend. Details here!
It was fun to sponsor the Aliferis race in September and see tons of BAC members running. We are excited to be a sponsor for the Zonta Walks for Women 5K on October 5th and hope to see a great turnout from BAC. You can register online here.
The sun was shining down on our Yoga on the Beach workout that raised money for the Sunrise Mission in September. Thank you to everyone who donated.
If you would like BAC to help with your community event or field trip use this form to apply.

Shakeology of the Month
PUMPKIN SHAKEOLOGY PIE
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a vitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

HEALTHY EATS!
from Kelly Lake
Southwestern Harvest Bowl
Earthy, warm flavors come together in this easy to make dinner. Yes, there is a couple steps, but they are not complex. You could make extra servings for meal prepping if you are looking to cut down on the time you are in the kitchen this fall. Enjoy good food but without the hassle of cooking each night. Get out and enjoy the Fall air with all the time you saved yourself.
INGREDIENTS:
Marinade for Chicken
-1 TBSP honey
-1 juice of lime
-1 tsp. garlic powder
-½ tsp. salt
-½ tsp. pepper
-1 sweet potato, peeled and chopped into 1 inch cubes
-1 TBSP vegetable oil
-1 ear of sweet corn, kernels removed
-1 lb. chicken
-½ cup crumbled feta cheese
-1 cup quinoa
-2 cups water
-1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
-1 avocado, chunked into 1 inch cubes
Cilantro Dressing
-1 cup Greek yogurt
-1 handful fresh cilantro
-2 TBSP olive oil
-Pinch of salt
-Zest of lime
DIRECTIONS:
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Toss the sweet potato with one tablespoon of oil. Add salt and pepper to taste. Roast, covered with foil for about 40 minutes. Pierce the largest cube with knife and if there is no resistance, they are cooked.

In a resealable container combine the marinade ingredients, add chicken. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Grill or broil over high heat until cooked thoroughly. Set aside to rest.

Prepare the quinoa by bringing water to bowl in a medium pot, add the quinoa and stir. Put top on pot and bring heat down to low. Stir occasionally until cooked, about 15 minutes. Toss in black beans to mix together and warm slightly.

October 2018
Some life lessons and truths to share.

You can choose to live healthy.

It is not easy. But it's worth it.

You can embrace the inconvenience of squeezing in workouts, planning ahead for meals, saying "no, thank you" to people who take you off track, or don't support your goals.

You can choose to live happy.

It's not easy. But it's worth it.

You can let go of the baggage in your head, tune out the critics, find joy in your own journey and build up others around you. It feels so good to laugh, to cheer for others and to just let go of judgment. Life is too short to always be angry or feel slighted.

For a
great song on happiness, check out Little Big Town's "Happy People" and really listen...I think I have the lyrics memorized!

You can choose to live now.

You can be proud of who you are and what you have in your life right now. Do not wait until you've reached your goal or a specific destination to enjoy life.  The perfect number on the scale won't make you happy. The new shoes or purse won't make you happy. The dessert won't make you happy. The TV show won't make you happy. YOU make you happy when you choose to live in the moment.

PS - October is a blast at BAC. Thinner Winner, Body Beauty, Turing Point! You can't go wrong. And as always, we are a happy, judgment-free environment for people of all ages, stages and abilities. It feels like home.

See you at at the club, my friend!

Mark your calendar for a Pound Party in October!  We know you love this rockstar cardio, with a side of strength format so we've got another one scheduled this month.  The party happens on Wednesday, October 3rd at Bay Urban Fitness at 6:30pm.  Meet instructor Ami Lenning for a rocking good time!  This class is a free bonus to our members! It is $10 for non members.

Get your bike shorts on for a Cycle 90 workshop on Sunday, October 14th with instructor Tracie Granata.  This special in our Urban Ride department will not only deliver a killer calorie burn but some great endurance training.  We love that cycle is a high-intensity workout that keeps it low impact.  The cost of this 90 minute class themed "cycle through the decades," is $10 and $20 for non members.  Sign up required.  Call 989.356.5600 to save a bike for you!

We have one more Pound Party coming your way in October!  This one is extra exciting because it is a Sweat for a Cause to benefit Zonta Walks for Women and their efforts to raise awareness and funds around breast cancer.  The party is on Friday, October 19th and starts at 5:30pm.  All welcome.  A donation of at least $5 is appreciated.  All of the money raised will go to Zonta Walks for Women.

Urban Ride and TRX HIITs sign ups can now be viewed on our website!  Calling ahead to reserve a bike before an Urban Ride class or TRX before TRX HIITs is still needed but now you can quickly check to see if there is an opening.  Find the links on our Group Ex page on our website.
