Keekers' Story by Volunteer, Barb Delgato
Wendy and Zeekers

"Being a Cat Depot volunteer brings you in touch with many people from the community. People who love cats seem to find each other," said Cat Depot volunteer, Barb Delgato.

When Barb and her family had an urgent and timely need to transport their family cat 1,000 miles to Sarasota, she reached out for help and asked the volunteers at Cat Depot.

Find out how one Cat Depot volunteer helped another volunteer successfully reunite Keekers with his lifelong buddy and read about his amazing journey of 1,000 miles.

Hoarding in Lakewood Ranch Country Club

All too often, well intended rescuers become overburdened and overwhelmed, becoming the victims themselves. Cat Depot's medical team processed and treated numerous cats in an effort to help place 40 abandoned and frightened cats among a variety of humane organizations. The fact that this happened in Lakewood Ranch proves it can happen anywhere.

A special thanks goes out to Sarasota Humane Society, who took a large share, along with Honor Ranch and EARS. Manatee Humane Society also assisted along with rescue groups outside both Manatee and Sarasota counties.

This was a team effort, and we could not have completed this rescue mission without the support of these dedicated groups," said Shelley Thayer, executive director.

Twelve rescued cats are available for adoption at Cat Depot.

Teens Save Lives in Exchange for School Credit
Hop & Scotch
Hop & Scotch

A new teen program promotes lifesaving foster care for bottle kittens, moms with kittens, weaned kittens, and cats who need loving one-on-one care. Teens can choose a foster duration of three to eight weeks while earning community credit for school.

Teens will learn a variety of skills, from safe handling, neonatal care, daily feeding, and health monitoring and tracking. This is an opportunity for young adults to become involved and make a positive difference in our community and a lifesaving difference to the animals in their care.

Fredrick is Going to Make It!
Fredrick
Whether or not Fredrick played possum, we will never know for sure. But, the attack left him unable to lift his head or move. Thankfully, he was found and brought in for help. Deep cuts and puncture wounds were compounded by a spinal injury at the base of his neck. "In spite of his injuries, Fredrick is an incredibly sweet boy, and is overcoming some challenging physical conditions," said Dr. Jill Kirk, medical team veterinarian. "He still needs a lot of R&R and love to completely mend. A foster home, where he can remain calm and have limited access to movement, would be best."

If you are interested in fostering Fredrick, please contact, veterinarian technician, Olivia Vallis at 941.366.2404 or email OliviaV@catdepot.org.

Saving 3,000 Unwanted Kittens with 700 FREE Sterilizations

Free spay and neuter

Cat Depot is cleaning up its back yard and putting a halt to euthanasia.

Cats in Florida can have kittens two or three times a year, putting a horrendous burden on a homeless mother, who is desperate for food and seeking protection for her litter. Cat Depot hopes to end that burden for cats in zip codes 34234, 34235 and 34237. Personal pets belonging to income qualified families along with community free roaming cats are eligible for FREE spay/neuter. Cat Depot is adding a rabies vaccine, microchip and Revolution for fleas, ticks and ear mites.

To schedule a FREE spay/neuter call 941.366.2404 x 320, or email spayandneuter@catdepot.org.

Grants awarded from the Florida Animal Friend Grant, Best Friends Animal Society, and The Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society have made this possible.

Cat Depot is seeking volunteers to distribute flyers, supply transportation, and help get the word out. To assist, contact Cody at 941.366.2404 or email CodyC@catdepot.org.
