How does the name "Golden Bears Way" sound?
On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, on the Dallas City Council Agenda there will be a discussion about changing the name Garza Avenue, between Marsalis Avenue and Vanetta Lane, to “Golden Bears Way.”
Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn King Arnold is asking that as many as possible sign up to speak in “favor” of the street name change. You may contact the City Secretary Office at 214.670.0653 to register to speak. You MUST call before Tuesday, September 27 by 5pm. Just let the office know you want to sign up to speak in favor of PH1. 22-2007.
Also, you may send an email to all the councilmembers and the Mayor asking them to support MPT Arnold and this street name change.
There’s another option as well, you can speak virtually and the City Secretary office can give you the details.
Fill the Council Chambers up on Wednesday, September 28 with your show of support of the street name change.

12 concussion myths debunked

Concussion care and awareness have come a long way in the past two decades. Gone are the days when a wobbly football player would just “shake off” a collision and trot back to the huddle. Today, if a player exhibits symptoms of a concussion, they’re more likely to be ushered to the sideline and examined. In most cases, their helmet is taken away so they cannot reenter the game.

FAITHFUL UTTERANCES
The Blind Spots
By Dr. Froswa' Booker-Drew

I was driving back from Austin after speaking at a conference. As I got in the DFW area, I was about to change lanes and I noticed a lady riding in my blind spot. She moved around me to the left lane and proceeded to move into the other blind spot. In frustration, I sped up just to get away. In that moment, I learned a valuable lesson. We all have blind spots not just on the roads but even in our life journey. We need help to see what we can’t.

Because Of Them We Can
By BOTWC Staff

It’s no secret that mainstream culture is Black culture and, more importantly, Black style is the foundation on which all things cool exist. Still, many would like to conveniently leave that part out, opting to rename our innate styles under newfangled terminology, but we will never forget. Fashion rockstars like Kanye West and the late, great, Virgil Abloh may seem like supernova stars, but the truth is that they exist because of a long line of fashion forefathers and matriarchs.

Dallas County district attorney probes allegations court forged eviction notice

A justice of the peace court is under scrutiny after an attorney for a Mesquite mother said the court fabricated an
eviction hearing notice.
By Leah Waters

The Dallas County District Attorney’s office is investigating allegations that a justice of the peace court fabricated a hearing notice in a Mesquite woman’s eviction case, according to an attorney in the office. “Our Office has just received records from the complainant and we are in the early stages of a criminal investigation into this matter,” Assistant District Attorney Rick Vela wrote in an email Tuesday.

Some reject Henry’s calls for calm, clear roads in Haiti even as Fiona bears down
The Haitian Times
By Murdith Joseph

PORT-AU-PRINCE — More than five days after protests erupted in the streets of Haiti’s capital and some provinces, Prime Minister Ariel Henry urged citizens to stay calm and blamed the demonstrations on armed bandits. He also pleaded with residents to remove the street blockades erected throughout the week if lives are to be saved as Hurricane Fiona passes over the nation.

By Stacy M. Brown

Popular music’s most powerful couple continue to make power moves. And, even when their good deeds are a year old, the significance never fades. Twitter and other social media users are again gushing over the impact Beyoncé and her husband Jay Z’s commitment to students in select high schools and historically Black colleges and universities.
The Path

As we walk through life's journey, we leave footprints. Some just show where we are going. Others redirect us when we get lost. Still others remain to guide those we leave behind. I see your footprints.
