FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

On March 15, I hosted a group of faith leaders from across Chicago to discuss the vision and mission of the IMD, and to identify solutions to foster information sharing and collaboration with Chicago's faith community.
I updated the leaders on the economic development and public health initiatives taking place throughout the IMD.
|
|
We also discussed a variety of relevant issues, including housing and health services for local residents, violence as a public health issue, the impact of systemic poverty, access to healthy lifestyle options and the role of faith in strengthening Chicago's communities.
The IMD looks forward to building strong relationships with Chicago's faith leaders and other community groups to ensure we are responsive to the voices and needs of the west side community.

ROBESON H.S. RED CROSS VISIT
|
On March 8th, students from Robeson High School in Englewood with My Block, My Hood, My City program visited the Chicago Red Cross. The students were given a tour of the building, learned about disaster response and blood services and participated in a home fire preparedness training.

CHICAGO CAC BEYOND WORDS EVENT
|
|
On Sunday, April 8, Chicago Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) will host BEYOND WORDS, an open house reception honoring survivors of child sexual abuse during Child Abuse Prevention Month. BEYOND WORDS will feature artwork created by ChicagoCAC clients and The Simple Good students, focusing on the meaning of 'the simple good' in the lives of ChicagoCAC youth.

| Guests will also enjoy spoken word poetry, an ice cream sundae bar and the opportunity to create art to contribute to the prevention-focused exhibit. CHICAT ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

We'd like extend our congratulations to IMD partner The Chicago Center for Arts & Technology (
CHICAT) on their one year anniversary!
In spring 2017, CHICAT opened the doors to its IMD facility with one goal in mind: to impact the lives of the city's most under-served residents.

CHICAT offers youth programs in digital art & design, and adult training courses in the lab maintenance/tech and healthcare IT fields. We wish them continued success in empowering and uplifting the west side community!

On Saturday, April 7, UIC will host its 9th annual Day of Service. It is the university's largest service event of the year. UIC has partnered with over 15 sites and community organizations this year, creating a variety of opportunities to give back to the city.

EASTERSEALS CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER OPEN HOUSE
|
On Friday, April 13, the Easterseals Gilchrist Marchman Child Development Center will host an open house from 3 PM to 5 PM. The goal of the event is to provide information about curriculum and programs offered as part of the
Head Start/Early Start learning program, which aims to
promote school readiness in young children of all abilities from families with incomes below poverty guidelines.

NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY
|
|
On Thursday, March 29, The Jesse Brown Veterans Health Care System, VBA Chicago Regional Office and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will host a ceremony to recognize and thank Vietnam Veterans for their service and sacrifices.
|
Each Vietnam veteran will receive a commemoration pin during the ceremony, which will feature a guest speech by Cliff Kelly of WVON 1690 AM. The event will take place from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at the Kizer Conference Center inside the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, located at 820 S. Damen Avenue. If you have questions, please email

TRI TAYLOR SPRING CLEAN-UP EVENT
|
|
On Saturday, April 21, the Tri-Taylor community will host its spring neighborhood cleanup, Mission: Clean & Green. The event will take place from 8 AM to 12 PM. This is a great chance to help beautify the community that we invest in, and to get to know our neighbors.
