A Message From The Chamber...

CARIBOO STRONG!!

The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce has limited internet access at this time due to the evacuation of 100 Mile House, the location of the Chamber Office, so communication will be sporadic.

The Board of Directors are involved in various activities around the Gustafsen Fire around the community or have been on evacuation order or alert.

It is surviving in times like this which will propel our community forward. With the survival of our resources Norbord OSB and West Fraser Sawmill plus our ranches, we will thrive in the coming months and years with the spirit of our communities. In the coming days there will be a need for support for the more vulnerable citizens of our community. There will also be the need to support our local businesses, get them back on track and allow them to support the many people they employ in our great town.

Many businesses that have not been evacuated are showing the true South Cariboo spirit and giving out of their own pocket for the need of others. Small pocket communities that are cut off from essential supplies are getting deliveries through back roads that are still open and little corner stores are providing for an amount of customers that they do not normally see in their stores. Communities are coming together to help neighbors, strangers, who ever comes to their door.

The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce will be researching and compiling ways for businesses to receive support in the way of education regarding supporting their employees, rebounding from loss revenues, and decisions that they may have to make. The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce will reach out to the BC Chamber of Commerce to help with compiling information from experts that may be able to help.

Our hearts pour out to the other communities that have been through these terrible times, our neighbors Cache Creek, Ashcroft, Williams Lake, 150 Mile and all the pocket communities  between here and there that are the heart of the Cariboo.

All this will take time and as soon as our great town is open for business again we will start moving forward!

The citizens of our community will support our business! Shop local! Buy Local,Support Local, Volunteer Local, Be Local.

The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce would like to take the time to acknowledge the extraordinary people that are working on the fires across BC. Volunteers from unaffected communities giving up their time away from family, home and their source of income to help others in need, to he heroes in the sky, the heroes on the ground...

Our local men and women out their from South Cariboo Search and Rescue, RCMP, Local Fire Departments, Volunteer Fire Departments, Restaurants that are feeding all the Fire Fighters, Local Media, MLA Donna Barnett, Mayor Mitch Campsall and Council, CRD Al Richmond and all CRD Directors for surrounding area, our local loggers and machine operators out there working long hours, and so many more that we don't even know about. Also the many evacuees that are now volunteers at the centres in Kamloops and Prince George.

A huge thank you to the volunteers in Kamloops and Prince George  at the Evacuation Centres and other communities donating food and items, offers coming from all over the province and Alberta to help move our important livestock, another important resource.

Our local media outlets have all updated information for you! Please take the time to share information from these sights to those that may not have the privilege of internet access. A lot of our rural communities are limited in quality of internet. Or do not have internet access at all. The information on these sights is where you should be getting your reliable information. These sights have all links for emergency services you may me needing in this time of need.
