Corporate Fit Challenge

Lappan Agency, Inc. finished strong in their first Corporate Fit Challenge. As a group, they lost over 67 pounds and 65 inches, in just four weeks. As individuals, they loved "encouragement from the teammates and coaches." and ...the Challenge inspired "the drive and desire to do good!" and "getting to start change for myself."

They were all winners by completing the Challenge, but some standouts included Jeanine Brink for losing the most weight, Sue Suszek for losing the most inches and Luciana King for losing the biggest percent of her original body weight.

Congratulations Lappan Agency employees, friends and family! -Team BAC and your Coaches Amy Schultz, Amanda Freeland, and Rick Houchin

Community Outreach

Bay Athletic Club loves to benefit the community and when we can do it through fitness it is even better!  In February, our monthly Sweat for a Cause event supported the Alpena Rotary Club's Splash Park project and so far raised over $100! We had a winter storm, so the turnout was lower than we had hoped for! Darn Mother Nature. :) These brave souls joined us! You can still help Rotary by dropping off a donation at BAC this week.  We are still accepting donations and will present our check at their meeting on Mon, March 6th.  Please drop at from desk!

Next month, you can Sweat for a Cause on Friday, March 24th at 5:30 pm when we raise money for a local cancer support group called Five-4-Friends.

If you would like to plan a community outreach event and involve Bay Athletic Club  download this form.

HEALTHY EATS!
from Kelly Lake
Teriyaki Steak on Baby Greens Salad

Spring will be here before you know it and this veggie filled salad bridges the gap between hardy wintery veggies and the fun of outdoor grilling. It may be a salad, but the boost of lean protein like venison steak or beef flank steak will leave you feeling satisfied, not to mention the healthy fats from walnuts and sesame seeds providing more benefit in this quick and easy meal.

Ingredients:
-1/2 lb venison steak or beef flank steak
-1/2 cup Soy Vay Veri Veri Teriyaki
-5 cups of chopped mixed salad greens like arugula, baby greens & spinach
-1/2 cup of halved cherry tomatoes
-1 crown of broccoli, large, chopped
-1/4 cup raw walnuts
-1/8 cup brown sesame seeds

Directions:
Marinate the venison for 30 minutes in a Teriyaki marinade. I recommend SoyVay Veri Veri Teriyaki, since even though it is store bought it's very clean and prepared with preservative free soy sauce, fresh ginger and garlic, onions, expeller pressed soy and sesame oils and bursting with sesame seeds.

Heat your grill or cast iron pan to high and cook meat to medium, tossing on broccoli in the final flip of the steak to blacken slightly. Allow meat to cool for 1 minute and then slice thin. Toss with baby spinach, baby greens and arugula, raw walnuts, grilled broccoli, sliced cherry tomatoes and toasted brown sesame seeds. For your dressing, just splash a tiny bit of fresh marinade and toss well. Enjoy!

Remember WHY You Do What You Do.

Click to watch Chrissy's story in action
As a mother of two junior high kids, I'm often at school for sports and activities. The other day, I was leaving Jade's basketball game (Go Wildcats!) and ran into my friend and Bay Athletic Club teammate, Chrissy Carriveau. She was decked out in BAC logowear, playing with her little one while her son was in wrestling practice. She was all smiles. I had to snap a picture. Chrissy reminds me of WHY we do what we do at BAC. At the heart of it, we help working parents live healthy and happy. We know that by reaching working parents, we impact many other lives --- their children, their senior parents, their co-workers and more.

Chrissy is a great example of a woman in our community who took her health and her future into her own hands and came out stronger...literally. Here is a snapshot of her story.

Chrissy preferred to live life behind the scenes.  She loved to be involved in activities, but did not want to attract any attention to herself. For her entire life, she lacked self-esteem.  Going through a divorce and becoming a single mom shook her.  She turned to partying, drinking and eating to fill the hole in her life when her kids were gone.

Chrissy eventually remarried, but some of her bad habits continued.  She and her husband Brian relied on meals as a form of entertainment and would often treat the kids with ice cream, fast food and desserts.

After her third baby, Chrissy could not take the weight off.  She felt horrible and battled post partum depression.  She was scared for her health, but mostly of the mom she was becoming.  She wanted to go down waterslides, ride bikes and smile confidently in pictures with her kids.  She did not want to hide in the shadows or on the sidelines.

Those feelings of fear actually motivated Chrissy to start the 21 Day Fix, a three week workout and nutrition plan.  Then she joined Bay Athletic Club's Thinner Winner weight loss challenge and fell in love with group fitness classes. She joined the club and later became an employee to be surrounded by happy people who want to live fit.

At 33-years-old, Chrissy is her most confident self.  During her fourth pregnancy, she stayed active, not missing a beat with her healthy lifestyle.  With all of the positive changes, her relationship with Brian strengthened. They make "gym dates," by participating in boot camps and classes together.

Pictures of Chrissy then and now show two different people.  Although she has lost a lot of weight, inches and several sizes, she does not just focus on the numbers. So many changes have  also  happened on the inside.  The woman of today loves herself and is the healthy mother and wife that her family deserves.

PS - It is never too early or too late to make a change in your life. Whether you are 15 or 75, fitness  changes  everything. If you are local to Alpena, please come see us at BAC or get back in action. Our camps really help people get started.  In March, you can join us for Body Beauty strength training for women, TRX Burn camp and a special Parent/Kid Boot Camp over Spring Break. All the details are in this issue. Contact Meag to get signed up. This is YOUR time.
Sincerely, Trina Gray, Owner, Bay Athletic Club
