On the Auction & Rummage Sale

"I was very impressed by the quantity of goods and the overall excellence in organization. It shows the great leadership in Rotary to be able to produce such an event. It is rare to see any sale so well sorted and organized particularly one so big. I had heard about the event for several years but this was my first experience. We bought all the items we could carry. Good stuff and at good prices. Our best find was a Japanese doll like my wife had as a child. Congratu-lations on a great event."

-- Howard Svigals, Past President of the Gig Harbor Rotary Club; Assistant District Governor

Kids for KiDiMu
Helping Hands

"A big THANK YOU to our Helping Hands from Rotary keeping our little ones safe at the Kids for KiDiMu Walk. Roy Murdock, Frank Nance, and John Stephens -- we couldn't have done it without you! One of the parents said, 'Wow, the folks from Rotary are so nice!'"

-- Susie Glass Burdick, Executive Director, KiDiMu; President Elect Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island

The Four-Way Test

1.  Is it the truth?

2.  Is it fair to all concerned?

3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

It's always a strange sensation to wake up on the other side of our annual Auction & Rummage Sale -- and this year is no exception. Word on the street is that 2016 was record-breaking in every conceivable metric. We know you can't wait to hear what those numbers are -- and if you come to the Volunteer Celebration Picnic on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 at Battle Point Park, you'll be among the first to hear this exciting news.

The Auction & Rummage Sale is a reflection of who we are as a community, and who we are as a Rotary Club (our Rotarian participation rate was 95% this year!). You're an essential part of why this event has become such a success -- and is now, we believe, the only event of its size and revenue anywhere. To everyone who worked, donated, and shopped: Thank you. And please join me in thanking Tom  McCloskey -- our Auction Chair Extraordinaire for three years running -- for his tireless leadership, talent, and enormous heart.

I look forward to seeing a full house of Rotarians at Wing Point on Monday evening as we launch the new Rotary year and honor those whose service during the past 12 months have made us proud.

We have so very much to celebrate.

In gratitude,

Susie Glass Burdick
President Elect

District  Governor: Driving Miss Joanne
Joanne Croghan at the District Conference in Olympia, WA, on June 25. The Governor's Gavel illustrates what a "big job" is is to govern this very large district.
The Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island is thrilled to be the home club of our brand-new District Governor, Joanne Croghan.

Rotary District 5020 is a very large district with nearly 5,000 members, comprising all of Vancouver Island and the very western part of Washington State from the Canadian border to the Oregon border, including Tacoma and Olympia. As Governor, Joanne and her husband Don Mannino (fellow Bainbridge Island Rotarian) will visit the 90 Rotary clubs in this district during the course of the year. It has been 40 years since a member of the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island -- Lou Frohning -- served as District Governor.

Joanne joined the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island in 1993 while serving as a Park District Commissioner. As a Rotarian, her most concerted effort was to help bring clean water to 191 separate villages in northern Uganda. Modest investments from Rotary Auction & Rummage Sale proceeds were used to attract grants and numerous other donations from individuals and groups to amass funding and compliance for a sustainable project. Many other Bainbridge Island Rotarians have either visited Uganda for this project or completed background tasks to help the project run smoothly for the past 15 years.

We wish Joanne the very best during this exciting year. With Don at the wheel, we expect a steady supply of adventures from this extraordinary Rotarian couple.

Facing Facebook
We know. Facebook makes some people jump up and down -- and makes other people want to jump off a roof. However you feel about social media, Facebook and Twitter have been essential tools in promoting the Auction & Rummage Sale. This year, our Facebook team ramped up its efforts and the results paid off. On June 27 alone, we reached more than 11,700 Facebook users.

If you haven't seen the albums of photos that were posted on a daily basis during prep week, visit the Auction & Rummage Sale Facebook page and have a look.

If you're a Facebook user, please make sure you've liked all of our pages.  It's easy to promote our club by liking, commenting on, and sharing our posts.
