Abbotsford Modular Housing Announcement:


“Lookout Housing and Health Society is excited to be operating a 44-unit
supportive transitional modular building in Abbotsford, located adjacent
to the Riverside shelter. Homelessness has increased in communities
across B.C., including Abbotsford, where the homeless population
counted in 2017 increased by 73% from 2014. Recognizing a strong need
for wrap-around services, Lookout is looking forward to collaborating with the
City of Abbotsford, BC Housing and project partners to provide
long-term support to the community’s most vulnerable populations.”

Announcement Highlights:
  • The overall investment is approximately $12 million
  • It is part of the province-wide investment of $291 million to build 2,000 homes around the province and $170 million over three years to provide 24/7 staffing and support services
  • Through this program more that 1,500 new homes for people most in need have started development throughout the province
  • Two modular housing sites were announced; one operated by Lookout and the other by Elizabeth Fry Society of Vancouver
  • The Lookout site will be located at 1640 Riverside Rd
  • Lookout's Riverside shelter will continue to operate

Victoria Supervised Consumption Services (SCS) Announcement:

In collaboration the Vancouver Island Health Authority and SOLID Outreach Services, a local Vancouver Island non-profit, Lookout will operate the supervised consumption services site. Located at 971 Pandora Ave., the Pandora Wellness Centre will provide harm reduction and supervised consumption to Victoria's vulnerable populations.

This year marks the 10th Annual H'Arts for the Homeless fundraiser!
This year's theme is... HOUSING!

Join Lookout for an evening of fun, food and entertainment on October 4th!
Tickets will be on sale soon so stay tuned!

There will live entertainment from a variety of talented, creative performers-- not to mention an incredible list of artists who will painting live throughout the night. Their pieces will be auctioned off at the end of the night for an exciting and competitive grand finale!

Haircuts!

Lookout staff and supporters got together on March 15th to have their long, luscious hair cut off and donated it to a very worthy cause. All the hair is being donated to make wigs for children battling cancer.

At least 8 inches was needed for each donation, maximizing what could be used!

Be The Change Conference
Shayne Williams, Lookout's Executive Director, spoke about Lookout's work, mandate and vision at the Be The Change conference in March.

With a room full of active listeners, Shayne highlighted the importance of stigma-free, inclusive support services and low-barrier, affordable housing.

On March 16th, Lookout Foundation hosted a soup-kitchen style lunch at the Be The Change Conference in New Westminster. Volunteers came out to support the event, serving hot soup and water to attendees and community members.
Trained Lookout staff were at the event to teach people how to administer naloxone and hand out free kits!
