We are so excited to bring back our "60 Second Inspiration" stories this month.  We have a great line up--you are not going to want to miss a single one!  To kick things off we are featuring Brendan Franklin.  He shares that he was heading down a dangerous path.  Bad attitude, sneaking out, hanging out with the wrong crowd, but then he found fitness.  So much changed in his life, inside and out.  Look for his story to air on Monday, April 2nd during the WBKB 6pm news.

Does a fellow BAC member inspire you? Nominate them to be our next story by emailing [email protected].

We were so excited to give out our first BAC Rewards gifts in March!  Joan Schimmel, Gretchen Kruse and Sara Kwiatek all earned a BAC blanket for hitting the 100th check-in mark. Many other members are close!

Here's the quick 411 on BAC Rewards: we want to reward YOU, our members, for making fitness a priority year round.  Members who get at least 100 check-ins during 2018 will receive a red BAC sweatshirt blanket: perfect for picnics, sporting events or snuggling on the couch.  Members who get at least 200 check-ins during 2018 will get the blanket and the sideline chair!  Oh...it comes with a carrying case too!

No strings attached, just more BAC SWAG and incentive for you, our valued members.

Community Outreach

THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Sweat for a Cause workout to benefit the Huron Humane Society. A grand total of $230 was raised! This is no-kill shelter that can always use help from the community. Trainer Rick Houchin had a blast leading the Urban Mix style workout. Our next Sweat for a Cause is happening on April 20th to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Bay Athletic Club got the chance to work with preschoolers Lincoln Elementary school last month. Instructor and trainer Tracie Granata taught them about healthy foods, daily exercise and even led them through some fun yoga poses.

Shakeology of the Month
CHOCOLATE BANANA CHEESECAKE
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a vitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

HEALTHY EATS!
from Kelly Lake
This salad will leave you feeling satisfied but not weighed down. Plus it features a homemade dressing, numerous seasonal vegetables and fruit. Don't let the list of ingredients stop you from trying it and it should take you 30 minutes or less.
Chipotle Chopped Pomegranate Salad
1 lbs. peeled and tail free shrimp
1 TBSP olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 TBSP chopped fresh parsley (optional)
1 tsp. chipotle powder
½ cup red quinoa, cooked according to package directions
4 cups of fresh spinach, chopped
1 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed well
½ cup frozen corn, thawed
3 TBSP pomegranate seeds
8 cherry tomatoes, quartered
2 TBSP feta cheese, crumbled
3 TBSP pepitas (shelled pumpkin seeds)

To a hot skillet, add the oil and garlic and shrimp. Cook until the shrimp is heated through, about 2 minutes. Toss the shrimp with parsley and chipotle powder. Set aside and start to layer your salad bowl.
Start with black beans, corn, tomatoes, spinach, red quinoa, feta cheese, pepitas, pomegranate seeds and finish with a crown of shrimp. Drizzle with 2 TBSP of the well whisked vinaigrette and enjoy! You'll have left over seeds so try tossing them into yogurt, savory chicken dishes (to finish) or eat them as is for a snack. Serves 2 adults.
Chipotle Grapefruit Vinaigrette
½ large grapefruit, juiced
1/3 cup olive oil
1 tsp. chipotle powder
1 tsp. fine salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1/3 cup taco sauce or tomato puree

In a small bowl, juice the grapefruit and combine with the rest of the ingredients. Whisk well to combine.
BOOST YOUR NUTRITION WITH A WEEK OF CLEAN EATING
Brent Kamyszek just bought a "Learn to Eat Clean in a Week" kit when he started his membership back up. This is a new tool we are offering to members. Fuel up with five days worth of Shakeology and a custom food guide for just $30. Available at the front desk or reach out to [email protected].
YOUR BRAIN WORKOUT
Mindset is a big part of being healthy and staying healthy. Not to mention a good human. If you are looking for some positive workouts for your brain check out this favorite from trainer and Group Fitness director Lindsey Bartz.
"I love that these podcasts are all around 5 minutes long and they are a great way to start the day with the right mindset."
Happy Birthday Tracie Granata.
She's been at BAC since the beginning.
This is a fun look at her journey!

April 2018
Happy Team. Happy Club. Happy Members.

I have learned a lot as a club owner over the past 12 years. One of the most valuable lessons is knowing that happiness in business begins within. T hat starts with me, as the leader.

When I take care of myself and dive into leadership and personal development, I'm more capable of paying it forward to my team.

When my team is happy, thriving, healthy, feeling challenged and appreciated, they are more capable of paying it forward to our members.

When our members are feeling cared for, fit, joyful, strong and less stressed, they are more capable of paying it forward to our community.

It is beautiful to see the ripple effect of happiness and health spread across northern Michigan. The club is more than a facility, a business, a logo or a brand. It is a mission, a tribe and a crusade of real people who care! You'll see our impact in our schools, workplaces, non profits, senior centers and hopefully you feel the influence in your home life as well!

I know that when I pour into the team, the club and our community will benefit. Each year, I take our leadership team on a quick getaway to recharge our batteries, get connected, brainstorm and explore. This year, we went  to Chicago to see a Broadway musical, called Hamilton. It was extraordinary.  It was world class. It left us speechless (and that is hard).

We also attended a wonderful yoga class at a cutting edge, boutique studio. It was like taking a field trip! We came home 36 hours later, in our 12-passenger rental van, inspired to work again at 5 AM! So many memories, laughs and good times.

Life is an adventure, I hope you spend it with those you care about most. I could not be more proud of ALL of Team BAC (teamwork makes the dream work!) and am grateful for these leaders, pictured here, in my life.

Sincerely,
Trina Gray
