Who Am I?

My place of birth is:
Birmingham, Alabama

My hobbies are:
Painting, writing, making art out of used/worn household items like wood, old tables, etc. I always handmake gifts for special occasions. I love dancing to old school music like the Temptations, Jackson Five, and MC Hammer. I enjoy quality time with the people I love and having good, meaningful conversations. I also like roller-skating, hiking, and being outdoors in the sunshine as much as possible.

The last good book I read was:
"Wonder" by R. J. Palacio

My oddest habit is:
Biting my fingernails when I am nervous.

Device I couldn't live without:
Does an electric toothbrush count?

My greatest accomplishment outside my profession:
I don't know where I got my deep desire to say no to a life of handouts and dependency or why   I  committed to my education and became the only member of my family to go to college. Some of my accomplishments include: graduating at the top of my class from The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University; interning several times, including once in Washington D.C. for an Arizona Congressman; winning an award from the Society of Professional Journalists National Collegiate for Investigative Journalism; and graduating with as little debt as possible... They don't teach this at Universities!

The reason I got into advertising/marketing:
It has become my life's goal to seek the truth and tell the story... Not just the truth about poverty and welfare, but the truth behind all manufactured images tired Americans digest each day.   Before my graduation   I  accepted a position with WNWO to be an investigative reporter.  I  was ready to pursue my dreams. When   I  arrived in Toledo   I  was told that their plans to start an investigative division had been canceled.  I produced the newscast while waiting for the opportunity to start my career in an investigative unit. I embraced my position as producer and reporter with the same focus and determination that is my nature. I'm excited to do be back here now and working in a job that I LOVE at FOX 36 Toledo. I help promote local businesses as an on-air personality and account executive.

Biggest influences on me professionally:
My Godfather Judge Bellamak and Godmother Traci Bellamak. I was fortunate to live with them throughout my undergraduate education. I saw how they lived and how hard they work and I want that. They taught me there's nothing a classy female with a big brain can't have!

My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
Traveling the world and learning about other cultures through experience.

When nobody's looking, I like to:
Eat. Sleep. Eat. Sleeeeep.... Z z z z Z z

The one thing I really want the world to know about me:
In addition to my job as an on-air personality at FOX 36 Toledo, I am also a Multi Media Consultant. If you're looking to advertise, let's collaborate! Contact me: vdias@fox36toledo.com or (419) 708-8093.

Oh, and one of my feet is a half size bigger than the other. I once bought a 7 and 7.5. The clerk never noticed, but I felt too bad and returned them the next day.

Best thing about being an AAF Toledo member:
Having a solid excuse to network and build relationships while on the clock.

AAF Toledo Blog

How to Submit a Guest Blog Post to AAF Toledo

The ideal length for a post is between 850 and 1,000 words and must not have been previously published.

Come up with a great idea. To be considered, AAFTOL blog topics should be related to advertising, marketing and communications. Write something that you would want to read yourself.

Send a proposal. Send a brief proposal to director@aaftoledo.org. Please do not send the full article. Keep it brief: a tentative headline; two or three sentences explaining what the blog will be about; and one sentence saying why you are qualified to write it. Based on this proposal AAFTOL will let you know within three business days whether to submit the article.

Write with the reader in mind. Writing for the web is different from writing for print. The best way to organize the piece is to start with a brief set-up that hooks the reader. Then organize the rest in segments. Assume the reader is busy and has a short attention span. Short paragraphs and headings within the article make it easier to read.

Include a brief bio at the top. Your name; the name of your company (with a link to your website); and if you've written a book relevant to the article, the title of that book with a link to the Amazon page or to your website if the book is available for sale there. If you tweet, please indicate that, and include a link to your Twitter profile page.

Submit the completed article. Please submit your final version by pasting into the body of an e-mail, or attach it as a Microsoft word document. Your submission will be reviewed by AAFTOL editorial board. If we have any questions, comments or concerns, we will contact you.

What happens next? AAFTOL will acknowledge receipt of the blog within 24 hours, and let you know within a week whether it has been accepted for publication. If it is, AAFTOL reserves the right to edit the article, including changes in the text, subheads and headline, to improve readability and maximize web traffic.
