"I am seized of concerns about extended coherent, strong messaging by Republicans on the Medicare savings in the bill. I would like to work closely with whomever is managing that part of the debate. I think we are going to need a concerted strategy employing the other seniors groups, an additional ad buy from us, statements from the hospitals, etc."

Nancy LeaMond (SVP AARP) to Jim Messina (Deputy Chief of Staff White House) (11/29/09)

"You are exactly right. I am nervous so I pulled our whole messaging (sic) team into my office this morning to coordinate."

          Jim Messina's response to Nancy's email (11/30/09)

  Capitol

On June 25th the House Committee on Ways and Means sent a letter to AARP questioning the veracity of their previous testimony before the committee concerning their support of Obamacare.

This letter raises questions about the true nature of AARP's relationship with the White House. It appears that AARP never responded to the request and as a result, another letter was sent to them on September 20th asking very specific questions based on a trove of emails between the White House and AARP that the committee has obtained.

Attached to the September 20th letter are 70+ pages of emails between AARP and the White House during 2009, and 2010, that obliterates the truthfulness of AARP's public statements. We have obtained a copy of these emails for your review.

During the first Presidential debate in Denver the President stated that "AARP thinks that the ---the savings that we obtained from Medicare bolster the system, lengthen the Medicare trust fund by 8 years." AARP then issued a press statement on its Facebook page that says in part: "While we respect the rights of each campaign to make its case to voters, AARP has never consented to the use of its name by any candidate or political campaign. AARP is a nonpartisan organization and we do not endorse political candidates nor coordinate with any candidate or political party." This statement is a downright lie in light of the irrefutable content of these emails. AARP is a full partner with the White House but it doesn't want its members or the public to know. In fact, HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR AARP's PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DEMOCRATS AND THE WHITE HOUSE, OBAMACARE WOULD NOT BE THE LAW TODAY!

We are going to review a few of these critical emails that have been made public. We encourage you to read all of the emails (Click Here and scroll to the bottom for all references) on the Generation America website. You will learn the depth of AARP'S relationship with the White House and the ends to which it went to get the legislation passed. Let one thing be perfectly clear: AARP has lied to its members and the general public about its nonpartisan posture.

These emails connect the trail between the White House and AARP, thus proving beyond any doubt that AARP was not independent and non partisan but an integral and critically important component of the White House team that orchestrated the campaign to turn this legislation into law.

On November 6, 2009, John Rother (Executive Vice President AARP) sent the following email message to Ann Widger (White House Staffer - Office of Public Engagement) as part of a thread where the White House wanted an AARP executive to participate in a round table:

"Ann, I think we will try to keep a little space between us and the White House on this issue. Our polling shows we are more influential when we are seen as independent, so we want to reinforce that positioning. So schedules would be a problem in any event, but the larger issue is how best to serve the cause." (Emphasis added)

A direct admission by AARP that poses an interesting question: What cause are they supporting? Supporting seniors? We don't think so. As early as July 24, 2009, Nora Super (Government Relations and Advocacy at AARP) sent an email from her cell phone to Lauren Aronson (White House Staffer) with the following message: "Hi Lauren, I tried to call and you were out. We really need to talk. Our calls against reform are coming in 14 to 1." (That means 93% of AARP members were opposed and yet AARP panics ---not for its members, but with the White House!)

In spite of the overwhelming opposition and clearly devastating impact on seniors, AARP proceeded in full partnership with the White House, even to the point of using the weight of its membership to threaten withdrawing reelection support to legislators, if they didn't vote YES on the bill.

On December 15, 2009, Jim Messina (Deputy Chief of Staff in the White House) sent the following email to Nancy LeaMond (Senior Vice President at AARP): "We need Barry Rand (CEO of AARP) to go meet with Ben Nelson (Nebraska representative) personally and just lay it on the line. 'We will be with you, we will protect you. But if you kill this bill, seniors will never forget.' We are at 59, we have to have him."

On the same day, December 15th, Jim Messina sends another email to Nancy asking her: "Can we get immediate robo calls into Nebraska urging Nelson to vote for cloture?" (So how can AARP expect anyone to respect or believe them when they say, "AARP does not coordinate with any candidate or political party"!?)

Fortunately for AARP and the White House, Bill Nelson is a democratic Senator and wasn't facing reelection during the midterms in 2010, so the threat was a future threat for his campaign for reelection this year. And the threats seem to have been effective, since Mr. Nelson voted for the bill's passage in the Senate.

So why the quote in the email? Whose quote is it? Who is above Jim Messina ---Rahm Emanuel, the Mayor of Chicago who was then the President's Chief of Staff or, the President himself!?

The entire 70+ pages of emails are full of disturbing information about AARPs alignment with the White House over Obamacare when it knew the legislation's negative impact on seniors' healthcare and finances.

So what is "the cause" referred to by John Rother of AARP in his email to Ann Widger? Perhaps it is the billions of dollars in incremental Medicare insurance that AARP is projected to reap as a result of the passage of Obamacare (see included House Ways and Means Committee Report on detailing AARP's forecasted financial gain). Or perhaps it is something else.

Let us leave you with one final email between Nancy LeaMond at AARP and Jim Messina, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff: "This is the new AARP-WH/Hill -LeaMond/Messina relationship. We do what we say we will do. We follow up when we say that we will. Seriously, a great victory for you and the President."

The victory for AARP and the President, clearly veiled in secrecy, was at the expense of AARP's members and all seniors.

All of AARP's members and voters need to read these emails to fully appreciate the depth of the relationship between the Obama White House and AARP.

This revelation clearly proves that seniors need a real voice; someone to counter AARPs claims that it represents seniors. This is a perfect example of absolute power corrupting absolutely.

Generation America was founded in 2009 by a senior who was shocked, appalled and angered that AARP would support Obamacare knowing it would cause seniors' medical care costs to increase dramatically, add 19 new taxes to already stressed incomes, add to the crippling national debt and turn over health care to the Government. Little did he know that it would also include the revealing of the truth about AARP intentionally compromising its trust with members and destroying its own integrity over what appears to be incredible greed.

Bottom line, AARP is using its deep pockets to try to cover up its role in getting Obamacare passed. Don't let AARP get away with its big lies. AARP has made it clear that they are all about something other than seniors. DON'T LET AARP USE YOUR MONEY FROM MEMBERSHIP DUES AND INSURANCE PREMIUMS TO HURT YOU.

Please help us inform seniors. AARP doesn't deserve members' loyalty and financial support knowing that Obamacare would not have passed without AARP's aggressive involvement with the democrats and White House. Had AARP come out and said that 93% of members are opposed to the bill AND had AARP opposed cutting $713 billion from Medicare AND had AARP not have threatened Congressmen and Senators, Obamacare would NOT be the law today!

Please encourage every senior you know to read these emails and learn the reality of this sordid, unethical and immoral behavior on the part of AARP at www.GenerationAmerica.org.

We must build an organization that provides a new voice for seniors in Washington. We cannot allow this to become The World According To AARP! To access the Table Of Contents of all the references, CLICK HERE and scroll to the bottom of the page.
