Student Membership

Over the past year, student membership in the AARV has been our fastest growing group. In 2017 we had 62 new student members join us! Veterinary schools are starting to include rehabilitation in their curricula and more integrative and rehabilitative medicine student groups are popping up. As client demand for rehab therapies for their pets grows, social media-savvy students are also taking note of this trend online.

The AARV would like to encourage members to reach out to students to help maintain this momentum. Consider lecturing on the topic of animal rehabilitation to student groups at a local veterinary school. Host veterinary students at your clinic for a weekend wetlab. Hire students for summer internships. Being a resource for students and supporting their interests in rehabilitation will help our field thrive and advance.

In response to our student membership explosion, the AARV is excited to announce that we are hosting a student contest that is sponsored by Royal Canin. Details are in this newsletter and will also be posted on our website. We encourage all student members to take advantage of this perk!

Please contact me or any of the other AARV board members if you have questions about our upcoming contest or student membership.

Interested in Conducting Clinical Research?

Are you interested in conducting clinical research but don't know where to start?
Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI) has created a new online course to demystify clinical research for practicing rehabilitation therapists, interns and residents.  Introduction to Veterinary Clinical Research  is taught by CRI faculty member  Chris Zink, DVM, PhD, DACVP, DACVSMR who has spent more than 30 years doing research.
The entire process from concept to publication is covered during the 10-week course. You will view online lectures, read assignments, and participate in an online live discussion with Dr. Zink each week. You will develop a research hypothesis that matches your interests and clinical caseloads, and then design, carry out and analyze the data for a pilot study. This course is RACE approved by the AAVSB for 15 credit hours.

There are students from the first course that are now collaborating on studies and have been awarded research grants.
AARV members receive a 10% tuition discount. If you have questions or are interested in registering for the next session, email CRI at info@caninerehabinstitute.com.
