President's Message

Happy Fall!

I hope you all had a relaxing summer and are having an enjoyable fall.

With the fall, comes a number of conferences including the ACVS Surgery Summit, American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association's Annual Conference, Healing Oasis Convention, and the Pain in Animals Workshop, to name a few. Hopefully you will have the chance to attend one of the CE opportunities as they each have fantastic lectures scheduled.

There were several grant proposals submitted, which are currently being reviewed by the AARV Board of Directors. The grant recipients will be notified later this month and officially announced in the November newsletter, so stay tuned! Continued support of research projects is an important part of our mission. The more questions we ask and answer, the more we advance the field. If you have an idea for a project that pops into your head, be sure to write it down and submit a proposal next year. If you are unsure how to turn that idea into a study design, please feel free to reach out to myself, Dr. Michelle Giuffrida, or any of the board members. We are here to help!

Nominations for the open BOD positions have been received, so be sure to vote! If you have an interest in becoming more involved, please feel free to reach out to any board member. Volunteering at the AARV booth or participating as a committee member is a great way to meet other members, become more active in the organization, and bring new ideas to the table!

Take care,

Interested in Conducting Clinical Research?

Are you interested in conducting clinical research but don't know where to start?
The Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI) has created a new online course to demystify clinical research for practicing rehabilitation therapists, interns and residents.  Introduction to Veterinary Clinical Research  is taught by CRI faculty member  Chris Zink, DVM, PhD, DACVP, DACVSMR who has spent more than 30 years doing research.
The entire process from concept to publication is covered during the 10-week course. You will view online lectures, read assignments, and participate in an online live discussion with Dr. Zink each week. You will develop a research hypothesis that matches your interests and clinical caseloads, and then design, carry out and analyze the data for a pilot study. This course is RACE approved by the AAVSB for 15 credit hours.

There are students from the first course that are now collaborating on studies and have been awarded research grants.
AARV members receive a 10% tuition discount. If you have questions or are interested in registering for the next session, email CRI at info@caninerehabinstitute.com.
