TriStates was a huge success. It is awesome to see our inaugural rides continue to grow and shine! What a great job by Joe Varner and his team! If you missed it, put this ride on your calendar for next year.
We have awarded 75 patches after TriStates and still have 30 riders in the running for the Trek bike, Academy gift cards, and Yeti cooler. We are looking forward to seeing how many of the 24 eligible cyclists earn their patches next weekend at Cycling for Sight.
Don't forget to look over the Guerrero Safety Pledge and familiarize yourself with riding in groups before next Saturday. Rider Brian Guerrero started the 2016 ride season with the goal of finishing all of the Alabama Backroads Century Series Rides. Brian became an ABCS Champion not missing a single ride. Tragically, we lost Brian after a tragic accident doing one of the things that he loved – riding his bike with his friends at an ABCS ride. To honor him we have implemented the Guerrero Safety pledge.

Cycling for Sight - June 24

Choose one of the four supported routes to enjoy fully stocked rest stops along the beautiful rural back roads of East Montgomery County. You will have mechanical and SAG support ev
ery mile of the way provided by the bike and IRONMAN outfitting professionals at Montgomery Multisport.
The money raised will help provide eye exams, eye glasses, guide dogs, and extended eye care to children and adults who could not otherwise afford care. The funds will also benefit Ability Sport Network at Huntingdon College. Check out the pictured hand cycle purchased with proceeds from last year's event that will enable an athlete from Ability Sport Network to ride this year.

Our partners, the Montgomery Bicycle Club will be facilitating our ride start. For those of you familiar with last year's Glassner Autumn Challenge, the ride start will be very similar. Remember that Cycling for Sight is a leisurely ride and NOT a RACE.
This year, we are starting riders in waves of 12-20 riders with riders 2 abreast. Please position yourself with faster riders in the first waves and slower riders in the latter waves. Moderate and slower riders going 12-17 mph should be in a slower wave so you’re not surrounding by faster riders trying to pass you at the start of the ride.
We will have signs and volunteers helping to get you organized before the start. The starting waves will be based on your planned riding pace. Find your Pepsi banner and wait behind it to be moved into starting position by the volunteers.
- Century Riders - 18 mph or faster
- Century Riders - 15 to 17 mph
- Century Riders - 12 to 14 mph
- 65 Mile Route
- 45 and 20 Mile Route

Parking (marked in red) will be in the back parking lot at Shoppes at Eastchase by Blackfinn Ameripub (marked in yellow). The Start/Finish Line is indicated on the map in blue. The service road where the Start/Finish Line are will be closed for staging of riders. Please leave the left lane open for riders to move to their staging position and find your place in the right lane behind the Pepsi Banner for your wave start.

The ABCS ride directors are concerned about your safety. Having your rider bib on with the numbers visible helps us keep you safe on the road. It tells us you are our rider and communicates where you are on the course to rest stops and the finish line so we are prepared for you. If you have a serious accident and are separated from your bike, it will identify you and help us get your family notified quickly if you can't speak. ALL RIDER MUST WEAR THEIR BIB NUMBERS and WRIST BANDS!
