AWANA is a ministry based in the U.S. in Streamwood, Ill. Founded in 1950, its mission is to equip local volunteers in churches around the world with Biblical evangelism and discipleship solutions so that today's children may become tomorrow's Christian leaders in every aspect of society and culture. It aims to "reach kids, equip leaders and change the world for God."

Puerto Rico Sister Church Initiative Update - "An Historic Moment and Opportunity"

The Puerto Rico Sister Church Initiative has over 60 mainland churches and 40 Puerto Rican churches which have joined together in partnership. 22 of the 33 American Baptist Churches regions are represented by participating churches. The participating churches are invited to join in friendship-building through prayer support, moral support and encouragement through written communications among pastoral leaders, church members and children, leading up to opportunities for common worship experiences during the 2021 Biennial Mission Summit in Puerto Rico.

"It is really a blessing that we have over 100 churches on the mainland and in Puerto Rico now getting involved in the Sister Church Initiative!" says Rev. Dr. Kevin A. Walden, Associate General Secretary for Congregational and Pastoral Effectiveness.

Prayer for American Baptists who will Participate in Prayerful, Reflective Retreat Opportunity to Nourish the Heart and Expand the Soul

Participants are signing up now to attend a prayerful, reflective retreat in October-November, 2018. Rhythms of the Spirit, to be held at Camp Wightman near Hartford, CT, October 29-November 2, 2018, will allow American Baptist participants an opportunity to explore and practice the transformed life together. Participants will consider the questions: Do you struggle for balance between prayer and activity? Do you long for a more quiet center; time for silence and reflection? Interested persons can learn more here.

Please keep registered participants and those considering whether they might attend a prayerful, reflective worship experience, in your prayers.
