FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JANUARY  10, 2017
AMERICAN BOARD OF WOUND MANAGEMENT
ELECTS SAMANTHA J. RATNER, DPM, AACFAS, CWS ® , AS A BOARD MEMBER

Samantha J. Ratner, DPM, AACFAS, CWS ®, an associate podiatrist at Seaford Foot Care Center in Seaford, NY, has been elected as a board member of the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). The ABWM is a non-profit organization which administers a certification process for health professionals in the field of wound management.

In addition to her role at Seaford Foot Care Center, Dr. Ratner is also a panelist at The Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing in Rockville Centre, NY. She performed her residency at Cook County Hospital and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. While at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, she received the honor of being named co-chief resident. Ratner earned the designation of Certified Wound Specialist ® (CWS ®) in 2013 and has served on the ABWM Exam Committee.

Ratner says, “I am extremely grateful and honored to be appointed to the ABWM Board of Directors.   Wound care has been my passion since I was a third-year medical student and has guided all my career opportunities in podiatry ever since.  Although my general area of expertise is in podiatric medicine, which I practice at Seaford Foot Care Center, the majority of my residency training and focus of my career for the last 13 years has been centered on being a wound specialist.”

Dr. Ratner has put her passion to work. “I concentrate mostly on the diabetic foot (preventive care and wound management), traumatic wounds, vascular wounds, and chemotherapy induced neuropathic wounds. Last year, I was appointed as a panelist at the Wound Care Center at Mercy Hospital and am a supervising physician for the Hyperbaric Medicine treatments.”

One of Dr. Ratner’s goals as an ABWM board member is to advocate for ABWM to join the allied health professional schools to promote the value of ABWM to students, residency directors, and student advisors.  The purpose of the American Board of Wound Management is to establish and administer a certification process to elevate the standard of care across the continuum of wound management. The ABWM is dedicated to an interdisciplinary approach in promoting prevention, care and treatment of acute and chronic wounds.  The ABWM currently offers the Certified Wound Care Associate® (CWCA®), Certified Wound Specialist® (CWS®), and Certified Wound Specialist Physician® (CWSP®) credentials.
