WOW! Expands Knoxville 1 Gig Network To Powell, Tenn.
WOW! announced the availability of broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps in Powell, Tenn., following continued expansion of the company's Knoxville network. WOW! residential and business services are now available to over 5,800 residential and business customers in the Powell community. The expansion of the WOW! 1 Gig Internet footprint into Powell comes a year after the company's initial launch of 1 Gig Internet service for Knoxville residents. Video: Talking Fiber With Hotwire’s Jonathan Bullock
Florida-based Hotwire Communications’ commitment to an all-fiber network nearly two decades ago has given the ISP a leg up in providing its customers with high-end video and Internet services. In fact, Netflix just awarded Hotwire the top spot in its October ISP Speed Index. Speaking with Cablefax at this year’s Cable-Tec Expo, Hotwire Corporate Development Vice President Jonathan Bullock discussed the advantages the company has based on its network. “We knew it would be future proof at the time and we wanted to make sure we were always going to have a state-of-the-art network,” he said. “It’s really afforded us a lot of opportunities in not having to upgrade to the latest DOCSIS.”   Read More

A Look Inside Wave's Gigabit Deployment
Wave Broadband announced recently that its Gig Speed Internet service is now available for residential and business customers throughout its footprint in Washington, California and Oregon. The network is powered by 7,500 route miles of fiber. Rob Katz, Executive Vice President at Wave, explained that some cases involve fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), some communities use RFoG, and some have fiber to a node in a neighborhood. "This launch in many ways is the culmination of the fiber network we've been building for the past several years through a combination of construction and acquisitions," Katz said. Read More

Shentel Partners With C-SPAN’s Student Cam Documentary Competition
Shentel has announced that the company will be partnering with C-SPAN’s Student Cam Documentary Competition. Shentel and C-SPAN previously worked together in 2016 for the Vice Presidential Debates at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. The Student Cam Documentary Competition invites all middle and high school students to enter the contest, which awards $100,000 in cash prizes. Entrants should choose a provision of the U.S. Constitution and create a video illustrating why it's important to them. “Shentel is delighted to be a partner and supporter of C-SPAN in this initiative,” said Chris Kyle, VP of Industry Affairs and Regulatory for Shentel. “We are hoping to get middle and high school students in our service area to participate in this documentary competition.
