Florida-based Hotwire Communications’ commitment to an all-fiber network nearly two decades ago has given the ISP a leg up in providing its customers with high-end video and Internet services. In fact, Netflix just awarded Hotwire the top spot in its October ISP Speed Index. Wave Broadband announced recently that its Gig Speed Internet service is now available for residential and business customers throughout its footprint in Washington, California and Oregon. The network is powered by 7,500 route miles of fiber. Rob Katz, Executive Vice President at Wave, explained that some cases involve fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), some communities use RFoG, and some have fiber to a node in a neighborhood. Shentel has announced that the company will be partnering with C-SPAN’s Student Cam Documentary Competition. Shentel and C-SPAN previously worked together in 2016 for the Vice Presidential Debates at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. The Student Cam Documentary Competition invites all middle and high school students to enter the contest, which awards $100,000 in cash prizes.
